11. Epidemiology of venous thromboembolism with focus on risk markers
Sammanfattning : Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a vascular disease with an incidence of approximately 140 cases per 100,000 person-years in adults. The incidence of VTE has increased over the last decades, and more than 20% of affected individuals die in the first year after diagnosis. LÄS MER
12. Risk markers and incidence of atrial fibrillation in northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common clinically significant arrythmia with a prevalence of approximately 3% in the general population. Less is known about the incidence of AF. In order to reduce the incidence of AF, it is of essence to identify modifiable risk factors for the disease. LÄS MER
13. Biomarkers and risk of intracerebral hemorrhage : population-based studies in northern Sweden
Sammanfattning : BackgroundIntracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a disease associated with a high morbidity and mortality and treatment options for the condition are limited. Even though an ICH event usually comes as a surprise to the affected individual, pathogenetic processes often have occurred before the sudden ICH event and may have preceded disease onset by years. 14. The impact of organizational and temporal factors on acute stroke care in Sweden
Sammanfattning : Background: Acute stroke carries a high risk of morbidity and death, but early treatment can improve outcomes. Intravenous stroke thrombolysis (IVT) is one such treatment, it is however time-sensitive and show better outcomes the sooner it is given. LÄS MER
15. Autoantibodies and the Type I Interferon System in the Etiopathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
Sammanfattning : In sera remitted for anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) analysis, the supplement of a sensitive anti-SSA/Ro ELISA to the conventional ANA screening by immunofluorescence (IF) revealed that one fourth of the individuals with IF-ANA negative, but SSA/Ro ELISA positive sera, had systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or cutaneous LE. Consequently, adding a sensitive anti-SSA/Ro ELISA to the ANA screening is valuable for the serological detection of ANA negative SLE/LE patients. LÄS MER
