1. Echocardiographic assessment of ventricular size and function in heart transplant patients
Sammanfattning : AbstractThe overall aims of this thesis were to use echocardiography to non-invasively, delineate early structural andfunctional changes following orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT), and to define reference values in the contextof gender and bridging with mechanical circulatory support.Several factors might affect myocardial function in OHT patients rendering the use of normal values fortransthoracic echocardiography derived from healthy subjects unsatisfactory. 2. Design of recombinant antibody microarrays for global proteome analysis
Sammanfattning : Antibody-based microarrays are among the new, rapidly emerging technologies within the field of proteomics that has the potential to evolve into a key proteomic research tool, providing novel means to perform early diagnostics, identify biomarkers and gain insights into disease biology. The aim of this thesis, based on five original papers, was to develop antibody microarrays based on human recombinant scFv antibody fragments for large-scale comprehensive proteome analysis. LÄS MER
3. Signalling mechanisms in B cell differentiation: Studies on specific human immune response in vitro
Sammanfattning : We need to understand the major signalling events in human B cell differentiation in order to be able to regulate the generation of human antigen specific antibodies. This study has focused on the signalling mechanisms involved in generation of germinal centre reaction and secretion of specific antibodies by human B cells, using different in vitro immunisation technologies. 4. Tipping the scale of resources : de-implementation of low-value care from an operant perspective
Sammanfattning : Background: The overarching goal within the field of implementation science is to generate knowledge that can contribute to bridging the gap between research and practice. Most studies focus on how to implement research findings, with the aim of using evidence-based interventions. LÄS MER
5. Prevalence and Inheritance of Hip Osteoarthritis in Iceland
Sammanfattning : Hereditary factors are suggested to contribute to osteoarthritis (OA), but their relative importance is uncertain. Moreover, the underlying specific variations at the genome level remain unknown. The prevalence of hip OA in Iceland was assessed by examining colon radiographs and was found to be at least 5-fold higher compared to Sweden and Denmark. LÄS MER
