11. Metal Release and Corrosion of Stainless Steel in Simulated Food Contact
Sammanfattning : Knowledge on metal release behaviour of stainless steels used in food processing applications and cooking utensils is essential within the framework of human health risk assessments. Recently, a new European test guideline (the CoE protocol) has been implemented to ensure safety of metals and alloys in food contact, such as stainless steels. LÄS MER
12. Transformation/dissolution characteristics of cobalt and welding fume nanoparticles in physiological and environmental media: surface interactions and trophic transfer
Sammanfattning : Nanoparticles (NPs) and nanomaterials (NMs) are present everywhere in the environment. They can form both as an act of nature and during human activities. Various kinds of NPs and NMs are engineered for different applications in the ongoing development of nanoscience and technology. LÄS MER
13. Metal Particles – Hazard or Risk? Elaboration and Implementation of a Research Strategy from a Surface and Corrosion Perspective
Sammanfattning : Do metal particles (including particles of pure metals, alloys, metal oxides and compounds) pose a hazard or risk to human health? In the light of this question, this thesis summarizes results from research conducted on metal particles, and describes the elaboration and implementation of an in vitro test methodology to study metal release from particles through corrosion and dissolution processes in synthetic biological media relevant for human exposure through inhalation/ingestion and dermal contact. Bioaccessible metals are defined as the pool of released metals from particles that potentially could be made available for absorption by humans or other organisms. LÄS MER
14. Surface reactivity, stability, and mobility of metal nanoparticles in aqueous solutions : Influence of natural organic matter and implications on particle dispersion preparation
Sammanfattning : The growing development of nanotechnology has resulted in an increased use of nanoparticles (NPs) in various applications ranging from medicine, military, to daily consumer products. There is a concern that NPs can be dispersed into the environment in various ways, for example to air and water during manufacture, use, incineration or recycling of products and thus pose a risk to health and the environment. 15. Corrosion-induced release of zinc and copper in marine environments
Sammanfattning : This licentiate study was initiated by copper, zinc and galvanized steel producers in Europe, who felt a need to assess runoff rates of copper and zinc from the pure metals and commercial products at marine exposure conditions. Their motive was the increasing concern in various European countries and the on-going risk assessments of copper and zinc within the European commission. LÄS MER
