  1. 6. HIV-2 infection in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa, with special reference to clinical, immunological and epidemiological aspects

    Författare :Hans Norrgren; Sektion III; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infections; Africa; Guinea-Bissau; AIDS; HIV-1; HIV-2; Infektioner;

    Sammanfattning : We have followed a cohort of police officers in Guinea-Bissau between 1990 and 1997 for the study of clinical, immunological and epidemiological aspects of HIV-2 infection. Initially the prevalence of HIV-2 was high (11.6 %) and HIV-1 infection was rare (0. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Membrane traffic in neutrophils and neutrophil-like cells

    Författare :Susanne Bauer; Infektionsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infections; membrane traffic; Hematologi; extracellular fluids; Haematology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; CD177; extracellulära vätskor; PR3; phagocytosis; Streptococcus pyogenes; Infektioner; neutrophils;

    Sammanfattning : The neutrophil constitutes the first line of defence against invading organisms and its primary function is to recognize, phagocytose and kill intruding microorganisms. In this thesis, the membrane traffic in neutrophils and neutrophil-like cells was studied. Non-opsonised S. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Streptococcus pyogenes and its interactions with the human host

    Författare :Ulrika Ringdahl; Institutionen för immunteknologi; []

    Sammanfattning : We have found that a set of group A streptococcal strains, primarily associated with skin infections, express surface-associated M proteins that bind plasminogen and plasmin with high affinity. The binding is mediated by a common 13 amino acid internal repeated sequence located in the NH2-terminal surface-exposed portion of these M proteins. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Inducible nitric oxide synthase in experimental urinary tract infection

    Författare :Mirjana Poljakovic; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []

    Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infection (UTI) is among the most common bacterial infections in humans and the majority are caused by Escherichia coli (E. coli). Abundant evidence indicates that nitric oxide (NO) produced by the inducible NO synthase (iNOS) plays an important role in host defense against infection. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Acute Otitis Media. Aspects of diagnosis and prophylaxis
