  1. 1. Quantifying hydroclimatic change impacts on infectious diseases : Signals and geographies from local to global scale

    Författare :Yan Ma; Georgia Destouni; Zahra Kalantari; Arvid Bring; Rita Colwell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydroclimatic change; infectious diseases; climate sensitivity; disease geography; quantitative study; scoping review; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Sammanfattning : Hydroclimatic change has the potential to directly or indirectly increase the occurrence and expand or shift the geographical range of infectious diseases. This may pose particular threats in the Nordic-Arctic Region, where warming is more rapid than in other parts of the world, but the climate sensitivities of various infectious diseases still remain to be investigated in this and other regions. 2. 2. Towards Climate Based Early Warning and Response Systems for Malaria

    Författare :Maquins Odhiambo Sewe; Joacim Rocklöv; Clas Ahlm; Yesim Tozan; Madeleine Thomson; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background: Great strides have been made in combating malaria, however, the indicators in sub Saharan Africa still do not show promise for elimination in the near future as malaria infections still result in high morbidity and mortality among children. The abundance of the malaria-transmitting mosquito vectors in these regions are driven by climate suitability. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Epidemiological aspects of tick borne diseases with focus on risk and prevention

    Författare :Louise Stjernberg; Pia Forsberg; Allmänmedicin och samhällsmedicin; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiologi; epidemiology; Folkhälsa; Public health; lyme borreliosis; prevention; risk; ticks; tick borne diseases; epidemiologi; epidemiology; Folkhälsa; Public health; lyme borreliosis; prevention; risk; ticks; tick borne diseases;

    Sammanfattning : The incidence and variety of diseases associated with ticks have increased world-wide and ticks are currently considered to be second only to mosquitoes as vectors of human infectious diseases in the world. In the northern hemisphere, Ixodes ricinus, the most common tick, transmits diseases caused by several infectious pathogens, including different types of bacteria, virus and protozoa. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Imported infections’ importance : global change driving Dengue dynamics

    Författare :Mikkel B. Quam; Joacim Rocklöv; Annelies Wilder-Smith; Eduardo Massad; Dave D. Chadee; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : Background Dengue is a significant problem of international health concern. According to the World Health Organization in 2012, globally, dengue is “the most important mosquito borne viral disease” with incidence 30 higher than it had been 50 years ago. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Acute febrile illness, antibiotic use, and the role of diagnostics to target treatment in India

    Sammanfattning :     Aim: This thesis examined the causes of acute febrile illness (AFI), the current use of antibiotics and diagnostics, and evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of C-Reactive Protein (CRP) to differentiate bacterial from non-bacterial causes of AFI in children and adult outpatients at R.D. Gardi Medical College hospital, in Ujjain, India. LÄS MER
