  1. 1. Microfluidics for High-Pressure Inertial Focusing : Focusing, Separation and Concentration of Micro and Sub-micron Particles

    Författare :Javier Cruz; Klas Hjort; Aman Russom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microsystems; Microfluidics; Inertial Focusing; Particle Manipulation; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot mikrosystemteknik; Engineering Science with specialization in Microsystems Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The birth of microsystems set the ground for technologies never imagined before, for it is not only the small size what characterizes the miniaturized systems, but unique phenomena arise in the micro scale. This thesis relates to one such unique phenomenon, inertial focusing, a phenomenon that occurs in microfluidic systems if very special conditions are met and that allows for fine manipulation of particles in fluid samples. 2. 2. Point of care microfluidic tool development for resource limited settings

    Författare :Indradumna Banerjee; Aman Russom; Luca Brandt; Gustaf Mårtensson; Jens Ducrée; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Blood; control; cell separation; centrifugal microfluidics; diagnostics; elasto-inertial; hematocrit level; microfluidics; neonatal diagnostics; nucleic acid quantification; point of care; particle focusing; resource limited settings.; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Sammanfattning : The development of point of care diagnostics using recent advances in microfluidics have the potential to transform health care in several ways, especially in resource limited settings with limited access to advanced health care infrastructure. However, translating a point of care device to reality is often a challenging task because of the complexities involved in integrating a number of diverse engineering concepts into an easy to use, accurate and portable device. Sammanfattning : Dispersed non-spherical particles are the fundamental constituent of many complex fluids. Such fluids are studied both for their industrial and scientific importance, and for their peculiar functional properties (mechanical, optical, thermal, fluidic). LÄS MER

  4. 4. The application of microfluidic devices and multifunctional fibers in cancer diagnostics

    Författare :Tharagan Kumar; Aman Russom; Fredrik Laurell; Gustaf Mårtensson; Johan Kreuger; KTH; []

    Sammanfattning : Efficient separation and detection of rare cells in a mixed population is important in many biomedical applications. For instance, isolating and detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from whole blood samples could allow for early cancer diagnosis and prognosis during treatment. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Microfluidic blood sample preparation for rapid sepsis diagnostics

    Författare :Jonas Hansson; Hjalmar Brismar; Aman Russom; Fredrik Nikolajeff; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :3D fluidic networks; bacteria isolation; inertial microfluidics; lab-on-chip; microfluidics; particle filtration; PDMS membrane; selective cell lysis. sepsis;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis, commonly referred to as blood poisoning, is a serious medical condition characterized by a whole-body inflammatory state caused by microbial infection. Rapid treatment is crucial, however, traditional culture-based diagnostics usually takes 2-5 days. LÄS MER
