16. Improving Stress Tolerance in Industrial Saccharomyces cerevisiae Strains for Ethanol Production from Lignocellulosic Biomass
Sammanfattning : The present work was aimed at developing industrial S. cerevisiae strains with improved tolerance to two types of stressors encountered during the fermentation of lignocellulosic biomass that affect ethanol yield and productivity, namely hydrolysate-derived inhibitors and high temperature, and at understanding the response of yeast and mechanisms of adaptation to such stressors. 17. Technological innovation and industrial evolution : the emergence of industrial networks
Sammanfattning : Technological innovation is one of the most important sources of corporate and industrial growth. Yet, we know notably little of the relationship between innovation and economic change. LÄS MER
18. Appraisal of strategies to improve thermophilic hydrogen production exploiting Caldicellulosiruptor species
Sammanfattning : The transition from a fossil to a bio-based economy is of vital importance to stem the effects of ongoing climate change. This bio-based economy will necessitate the production of both biofuels and chemical compounds from biologicalsources. LÄS MER
19. On bacterial formats in protein library technology
Sammanfattning : Millions of years of evolution have resulted in an immense number of different proteins, which participate in virtually every process within cells and thus are of utmost importance for allknown forms of life. In addition, there are several examples of natural proteins which have found use in applications outside their natural environment, such as the use of enzymes infood industry and washing powders or the use of antibodies in diagnostic, bioseparation or therapeutic applications. 20. Ethanol from lignocellulose : physiological effects of inhibitors and fermentation strategies
Sammanfattning : Fermentative ethanol production from dilute-acid hydrolyzates of wood using the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was investigated. Of known inhibitors in hydrolyzates, acetic acid, furfural and hydroxymethyl furfural (HMF) were found in the highest concentrations (up to about 10 g/l). LÄS MER
