11. On Folates in Yeasts -Exploring Yeasts as Vehicles for Biofortification of Folates in Food
Sammanfattning : High intake of the B vitamin folate during pregnancy is known to decrease the risk for development of neural tube defects. In addition, a good folate status may prevent the progression of several diseases such as megaloblastic anaemia, cardiovascular disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. LÄS MER
12. Superabsorbent Polymers from the Cell Wall of Zygomycetes Fungi
Sammanfattning : The present thesis presents new renewable, antimicrobial and biodegradable superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), produced from the cell wall of zygomycetes fungi. The cell wall was characterized and chitosan, being one of the most important ingredients, was extracted, purified, and converted to SAP for use in disposable personal care products designed for absorption of different body fluids. 13. Software Development Productivity : Evaluation and Improvement for Large Industrial Projects
Sammanfattning : Software development productivity can be improved by introducing improvements in many areas. In this thesis we investigate technology and process driven productivity improvements, i.e., productivity improvements that have sources in changes of technologies or in changes in development processes. 14. Development of biocatalytic processes for selective antioxidant production
Sammanfattning : Feruloyl esterases (FAEs, EC 3.1.1.73) represent a subclass of carboxylic acid esterases that under normal conditions catalyze the hydrolysis of the ester bond between hydroxycinnamic acids (ferulic acid, sinapic acid, caffeic acid, p-coumaric acid) and sugar residues in plant cell walls. 15. Process development for platform chemical production from agricultural and forestry residues
Sammanfattning : As part of a bio-based economy, biorefineries are envisaged to sustainably produce platform chemicals via biochemical conversion of agricultural and forestry residues. However, supply risks, the recalcitrance of lignocellulosic biomass, and inhibitor formation during pretreatment impair the economic feasibility of such biorefineries. LÄS MER
