  1. 6. Developing and optimizing processes for biological nitrogen removal from tannery wastewaters in Ethiopia

    Författare :Seyoum Leta; Gunnel Dalhammar; Jes Ia Cour Jenson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; biological nitrogen and supphide removal; dntififying bacteria; nitrade-reducing; sulphuroxidizing bacteria; nitrate uptake rate; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : In Ethiopia industrial effluents containing high contents of organic matter, nitrogen and heavy metals are discharged into inland surface waters with little or no pre-treatment. Significant pollution concerns related to these effluents include dissolved oxygen depletion, toxicity and eutrophication of the receiving waters. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Emerging technologies for climate-neutral urban areas : An Industrial Ecology perspective

    Författare :Asterios Papageorgiou; Cecilia Sundberg; Rajib Sinha; Maria Malmström; Ola Eriksson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban areas; climate neutrality; solar microgrid; biochar; Life Cycle Assessment; Material and Energy Flow Analysis; Substance Flow Analysis; Urbana områden; klimatneutralitet; solmikronät; biokol; livscykelanalys; material- och energiflödesanalys; substansflödesanalyss; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The ever-increasing concentration of human activity in urban areas induces environmental problems beyond their boundaries on scales ranging from local to regional to global, such as resource depletion, land degradation, air and water pollution and climate change. Human-induced climate change is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest sustainability challenges of the present century and it is inextricably linked to urbanization. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Industrial Ecology and Development of Production Systems : Analysis of the CO2  Footprint of Cement

    Författare :Roozbeh Feiz; Mats Eklund; Jonas Ammenberg; Henrikke Baumann; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; industrial ecology; industrial symbiosis; industrial development; life cycle assessment; multi-criteria assessment; CO2 footprint; cement;

    Sammanfattning : This research is an attempt to create a comprehensive assessment framework for identifying and assessing potential improvement options of cement production systems.From an environmental systems analysis perspective, this study provides both an empirical account and a methodological approach for quantifying the CO2 footprint of a cement production system. 4. 9. Industrial Ecology Approaches to Improve Metal Management : Three Modeling Experiments

    Författare :Rajib Sinha; Björn Frostell; Maria Malmström; Amir Rashid; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; system dynamics; element flow analysis; industrial ecology; product systems; end-of-life; DPSIR; pressure-based driver-oriented approach; environmental management; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : A linear model of consumption − produce-use-dispose − has constantly increased the pressure on the environment in recent decades. There has been a great belief that technology will solve the problem, but in many cases it is only partly contributing to the solution. For a full solution, the root causes of problems need to be identified. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Uptake, turnover and distribution of chlorinated fatty acids in aquatic biota

    Författare :Helena Björn; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; porpoise; fish; metabolism; food chain; respiration; membrane; phospholipid; chlorohydrins; lipid; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Chlorinated fatty acids (ClFAs) are the major contributors of extractable, organically bound chlorine in fish lipids. A known anthropogenic source of ClFAs is chlorine bleached pulp production. Additional anthropogenic sources may exist, e.g. LÄS MER
