  1. 1. Sustainability of rural energy access in developing countries

    Författare :Brijesh Mainali; Semida Silveira; Benjamin Sovacool; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Access; Rural electrification; Rural energy; Household; Renewable energy; Off-grid; Mini-grid; Grid; Pathways; Fuel choice; Indicator; Sustainability index; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : The importance of access to modern energy has been well understood by governments and donor agencies in many developing countries, and significant effort has been made in recent years to address energy access challenges. However, despite these efforts, the International Energy Agency (IEA) has predicted that the energy access problem will remain unresolved by 2030. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Low-Temperature Heating and Ventilation for Sustainability in Energy Efficient Buildings

    Författare :Arefeh Hesaraki; Sture Holmberg; Bahram Moshfegh; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Low-temperature heating system; Energy savings; Seasonal thermal energy storage; Variable air volume ventilation system; Indoor air quality;

    Sammanfattning : In 2013, the building sector consumed approximately 39 % of the total final energy use in Sweden. Energy used for heating and hot water was responsible for approximately 60 % of the total energy consumption in the building sector. Therefore, energy-efficient and renewable-based heating and ventilation systems have high potential for energy savings. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Essays on forecasting and Bayesian model averaging

    Författare :Jana Eklund; Handelshögskolan i Stockholm; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis, which consists of four chapters, focuses on forecasting in a data-rich environment and related computational issues. Chapter 1, “An embarrassment of riches: Forecasting using large panels” explores the idea of combining forecasts from various indicator models by using Bayesian model averaging (BMA) and compares the predictive performance of BMA with predictive performance of factor models. 4. 4. The importance of body-mass exponent optimization for evaluation of performance capability in cross-country skiing

    Författare :Tomas Carlsson; Michail Tonkonogi; Christer Malm; Klavs Madsen; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allometric scaling; power-function modelling; maximal oxygen uptake; body mass; elite skiers; distance skiing; lactate threshold; double poling; sprint skiing; competition; power output; time trial; Hälsa och välfärd; Health and Welfare;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction Performance in cross-country skiing is influenced by the skier’s ability to continuously produce propelling forces and force magnitude in relation to the net external forces. A surrogate indicator of the “power supply” in cross-country skiing would be a physiological variable that reflects an important performance-related capability, whereas the body mass itself is an indicator of the “power demand” experienced by the skier. 5. 5. Genetic Structuring and the Evolution of Lekking Behaviour in the White-bearded Manakin, Manacus manacus

    Författare :Lisa Shorey; David McDonald; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Lek Evolution; Manacus manacus; White-bearded Manakin; Genetic Relatedness; Mating Success; Male Characteristics; Behaviour; Biologi; Biology; Biologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic structuring is common in natural populations. It is important to identify and consider population structure when studying evolutionary processes. Recently, the discovery of genetic structuring in some lekking bird species has opened up new perspectives on our understanding of the evolution of lek mating systems. LÄS MER
