1. On dental implant failure and patient-related factors
Sammanfattning : Dental implants function as anchorage for dental prostheses. In a small number of cases, osseointegration fails to establish or be maintained around the implants, but the reasons for these failures are not yet fully understood. LÄS MER
2. On Fixation of Hip Prostheses
Sammanfattning : This thesis, comprising 5 separate studies, is concerned with fixation of prosthetic components in total hip arthroplasty. The results and conclusions of the studies fol-low;The initial stability of femoral revision components, the long cementless PCA stem and the Exeter standard stem cemented in a bed of impacted bone graft, was com-pared in an experimental study. 3. On various protocols for direct loading of implant-supported fixed prostheses
Sammanfattning : Backgrund: Prosthetic rehabilitation of the edentulous patient with implant-supported bridges is today a routine and predictable treatment modality. The original protocol prescribed a healing period of 3 to 6 months prior to loading which means that the total treatment time can be extensive and that the patients often need to wear removable provisional prostheses during healing and treatment. 4. On immediate/early loading of implant-supported prostheses in the maxilla
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Background: The original treatment protocol for osseointegrated implants prescribed an unloaded healing period of 3 to 6 months before connection of the prosthetic superstructure. During the last years shortened healing time and rapid loading have become more frequently used. LÄS MER
5. Neuromusculoskeletal interfacing of lower limb prostheses
Sammanfattning : The method of bone-anchored attachment of limb prostheses via a percutaneous skeletal extension was developed to circumvent commonly reported problems associated with the conventional method of socket attachment. In addition to the direct structural connection, the percutaneous implant may serve as a conduit for bidirectional communication between muscles and nerves within the residual limb and the prosthesis.
