1. Electromagnetic Modeling and Design of Medical Implants and Devices
Sammanfattning : This thesis covers two topics in biomedical electromagnetics: pacemaker lead heating in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and optimization of sensorpositions in magnetic tracking. The electromagnetic part of pacemaker lead heating during MRI is a resonant phenomenon which is complicated by, among other factors, the wide range of length scales involved in the problem. 2. On New Implants - The results of five prospective, randomized RSA trials with aspects on phased introduction and continuous migration
Sammanfattning : A concern that arises with any change in design or operative technique is whether it affects the long-term implant stability or not. One way to address this is, by measuring early micromotion, to predict the future revision rate. LÄS MER
3. Oncological safety and health-related quality of life after reconstructive breast cancer surgery
Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to gain knowledge about the oncological safety of nipple- sparing mastectomy (NSM) with immediate implant-based reconstruction and delayed Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator (DIEP) flap breast reconstruction. In this context, we also considered the impact of discrepancies in socioeconomic status (SES) and comorbidity. LÄS MER
4. The use of antibiotic prophylaxis in implant dentistry : a microbiological and clinical perspective
Sammanfattning : The current development of antibiotic resistance calls for prudent use of antibiotic prescription. Methods of investigating antibiotic overconsumption, include identifying areas of misuse or overuse, as well as implementing recommendations and guidelines. The efficacy of antibiotic prophylaxis prior to dental implant surgery is debated. LÄS MER
5. Primary reconstruction with implants in breast cancer : aspects of oncological safety and aesthetic outcome
Sammanfattning : Introduction: Despite the introduction of breast conserving surgery, in Sweden mastectomy is still annually recommended to 40–50 % (about 3000) of women with breast cancer. National guidelines state that, in the absence of contraindications, these women should be offered breast reconstruction. LÄS MER
