16. CD40L Gene Therapy for Solid Tumors
Sammanfattning : Adenoviral CD40L gene therapy (AdCD40L) is a strong inducer of anti-tumor immune responses via its activation of dendritic cells (DCs). Activated DCs can in turn activate T cells, which are key players in an efficient anti-tumor response. This thesis includes three papers that focus on different aspects of AdCD40L gene therapy. 17. The Multiple Faces of Genetically-Modified T Cells : Potential Applications in Therapy
Sammanfattning : In this PhD thesis the potential of T-cells as therapy for disease are explored. The applications of genetically modified T-cells for treatment of cancer and autoimmune disease; the functionality and optimal activation of T-cells are discussed. LÄS MER
18. Tumor-targeted superantigens for experimental immunotherapy of human leukemia/lymphoma
Sammanfattning : Bacterial superantigens (SAgs) have the property of stimulating high proportions of T cells expressing certain TCR Vβ sequences. The SAg first binds with high affinity to HLA class II molecules on the target cell and then stimulates the T cell to produce cytokines and to become cytotoxic. LÄS MER
19. Immunological aspects of intratumoral chemotherapy and immunotherapy in malignant brain tumors
Sammanfattning : Advances in surgery, chemo- and radiotherapy have only modestly improved survival rates of malignant brain tumor patients during the last decades. Emerging evidence suggests that an efficient treatment of malignant brain tumors will likely require the management of multiple aspects of tumor pathobiology in order to manipulate features as tumor heterogeneity and tumor immunosuppression. 20. Synergistic effects of mesenchymal stromal cells and immunotherapy in experimental brain tumors
Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and aggressive form of primary brain tumor. In spite of surgical resection, combined radiation therapy and chemotherapy, the mean survival is less than 15 months following diagnosis. LÄS MER
