1. Adoptive T Cell Therapy of Viral Infection and Cancer : Ex vivo Expansion of Cytomegalovirus- and Prostate Antigen-specific T Cells
Sammanfattning : The main focus of my thesis has been to develop protocols for generating antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and T helper cells (TH) for adoptive transfer to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) disease and prostate cancer. CMV viremia is a severe complication in immunocompromised stem cell transplanted patients. LÄS MER
2. Immunological effects of isolated regional perfusion in malignant melanoma
Sammanfattning : Malignant melanoma patients with metastatic disease confined to the limbs or liver may be treated with hyperthermic isolated regional perfusion with a chemotherapeutic agent, most commonly melphalan. This procedure enables much higher tissue concentrations of the chemotherapeutic agent compared with systemic administration. LÄS MER
3. Dendritic cell responses to apoptotic cells : is there life after death?
Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells (DC) are antigen-presenting cells that are crucial for the induction of immune responses to pathogens and for the maintenance of self-tolerance. DCs efficiently capture and process material from their local environment, including invading pathogens and dying cells of the host, and present the material to the adaptive immune response. LÄS MER
4. Regulation of T cell activation and death by the affinity of TCR for peptide/MHC complexes
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to investigate the role of the affinity of peptide:MHC/TCR interaction in the regulation of T cell activation, death and repertoire selection. Three aspects pertinent for our understanding of this issue have been analyzed. LÄS MER
5. Reconstruction of vocal fold scarring with mesenchymal stromal cell therapy
Sammanfattning : Tissue injury/scarring of the vocal folds (VFs) can be caused by various factors including external trauma, cancer treatment or inflammation, leading to damage within the vibrating layers and a decrease in viscoelastic functions. These effects ultimately result in severe voice problems. This condition leads to significant morbidity for patients. LÄS MER
