17. The immune microenvironment of colorectal cancer - Relationship with survival, sidedness, and pre-diagnostic anthropometry
Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer worldwide. Increasing evidence suggests that CRC should be considered a heterogeneous disease, with multiple differences between proximal and distal tumours. LÄS MER
18. Ecology and evolution in a host-parasitoid system : Host search, immune responses and parasitoid virulence
Sammanfattning : In host-parasitoid systems, there is a continuous coevolutionary arms race where each species imposes a strong selection pressure on the other. The host needs to develop defence strategies in order to escape parasitism and the parasitoid must evolve counter-defence strategies in order to overcome the host’s immune defence and successfully reproduce. 19. Maternal and neonatal metabolomes and their associations to immune maturation and allergy in early life
Sammanfattning : Allergy, one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide, is caused by a dysregulated immune system reacting to normally harmless proteins. However, regulating mechanisms are not well understood. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if plasma and placenta metabolites associate prospectively to allergy development and immune maturation. LÄS MER
20. Immune reconstitution after childhood leukemia. Aspects on immunizations and effects of Ara-C on the innate immune system
Sammanfattning : Children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) can be cured with cytotoxic chemotherapy, but myelosuppression and immunosuppression are major side effects causing morbidity and even mortality from infections. Vaccinations with diphtheria toxoid (DT), tetanus toxoid (TT) and protein conjugated Haemophilus influenzae type B (Hib) capsular polysaccharide were used to investigate the adaptive immune system in a controlled study of 31 children after treatment for ALL.
