  1. 11. Immune response of the small intestinal mucosa in children with celiac disease : impact of two environmental factors, resident microbiota and oats

    Författare :Veronika Sjöberg; Marie-Louise Hammarström; Olle Hernell; Katri Kaukinen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Celiac disease; Oats; Microflora; Immune response; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Celiac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated enteropathy caused by permanent intolerance to dietary gliadin in wheat gluten and related prolamines in barley and rye. The pathogenesis of CD is still unknown and several different environmental factors have been associated with CD, such as dysbiosis of the microflora. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Pathogen-mediated selection in the immune system of rodents : Exploring selection targets, functional effects and trade-offs

    Författare :Mridula Nandakumar; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pathogen-mediated selection; bank voles; Myodes glareolus; immune system; balancing selection; immune response; rodents; positive selection; transcriptomics;

    Sammanfattning : Pathogens cause disease and play an important role in shaping evolution of the host immune system. They create pressure on host immunity to evolve in numerous ways, most commonly by increasing divergence between species (positive selection) or increasing polymorphisms within a population (balancing selection). 3. 13. The interplay between Giardia intestinalis and host intestinal epithelial cells : A tale of immune activation and suppression

    Författare :Jana Grüttner; Staffan Svärd; Mikael E. Sellin; Steven Singer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Giardia; diarrhea; RNAseq; proteomics; small intestinal epithelial cells; enteroids; organoids; protozoan; differentiation; immune response; host-parasite interaction; swimming; Biologi med inriktning mot mikrobiologi; Biology with specialization in Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Giardia intestinalis is a non-invasive, protozoan parasite causing the diarrheal disease giardiasis in a variety of mammals, including humans. The parasite has two main life cycle stages; disease-causing trophozoites and infectious cysts. Trophozoites colonize the host’s upper small intestine by attaching to intestinal epithelial cells (IECs). G. LÄS MER

  4. 14. A peripheral immune response in Huntington's disease and delineation of its importance in disease pathology

    Författare :Anna Magnusson-Lind; Biomarkörer vid hjärnsjukdomar; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Huntington s disease; peripheral symptoms; immune response; muscle atrophy; cytokines; gene expression; JAK STAT; NFkB; IL-6; TNF-alpha;

    Sammanfattning : Huntington’s disease (HD) is a fatal, hereditary disease for which there is no cure. It is caused by a mutation in a gene called huntingtin. HD is a so-called neurodegenerative disease, where there is a loss of neurons in areas of the brain that control body movements. This results in uncontrolled dance-like movements (chorea). LÄS MER

  5. 15. Maturation of humoral immune responses : Studies on the effects of antigen type, apoptosis and age

    Författare :Karin Lindroth; Carmen Fernández; Kenneth G.C. Smith; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; immunology; B cell; humoral immune response; Immunology; Immunologi;

    Sammanfattning : The humoral immune response is dependent on the formation of antibodies. Antibodies are produced by terminally differentiated B cells, plasma cells. Plasma cells are generated either directly from antigen challenged B cells, memory cells or from cells that have undergone the germinal center (GC) reaction. LÄS MER
