1. Cellular Immune Responses to Allografts and Cytomegalovirus
Sammanfattning : Today the immunosuppressive treatment is kept to a level were the incidence of acute rejection is below 20% within the first year after transplantation. As a consequence, a group of transplanted patients is over-immunosuppressed and at risk for infections. LÄS MER
2. Interferon-alpha based treatment of metastatic malignant melanoma : Effect of immune parameters of importance for monitoring immunotherapy
Sammanfattning : Cutaneous malignant melanoma is a rapidly increasing disease. Most patients are cured by surgical excision of their primary tumour, but for patients with metastatic disease the prognosis is still very poor despite various attempts with chemotherapeutic agents, and during the last decade with immunotherapy, using several different biological agents alone or in combination. 3. Experimental models of pediatric brain tumors. Establishment, immunophenotyping and clinical implications
Sammanfattning : Brain tumors are the most common solid tumors in children. Current treatment protocols fail in 25% of patients and are associated with significant long-term adverse effects in survivors. LÄS MER
4. Maternal and neonatal metabolomes and their associations to immune maturation and allergy in early life
Sammanfattning : Allergy, one of the most common chronic diseases worldwide, is caused by a dysregulated immune system reacting to normally harmless proteins. However, regulating mechanisms are not well understood. The aim of this thesis was to investigate if plasma and placenta metabolites associate prospectively to allergy development and immune maturation. LÄS MER
5. Immune monitoring in humans after manipulation by B cell depletion and immunization
Sammanfattning : The overall goal of this thesis was to study the influence of immunomodulatory drugs on the human immune system. The approach was bi-directional; ex vivo studies were performed after B cell depletion with rituximab treatment in patients with SLE and RA, and an in vivo assay was established to study effects of drugs on immune responsiveness.
