    Sammanfattning : The mechanisms of β-cell destruction leading to type 1 diabetes are complex and not yet fully understood, but infiltration of the islets of Langerhans by autoreactive immune cells is believed to be important. Activated macrophages and T-cells may then secrete cytokines and free radicals, which could selectively damage the β-cells. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Signal transduction pathways potentially involved in destruction of insulin-producing β-cells in type-l diabetes and gene transfer to prevent β-cell death were studied in vitro. Adenovirus-polylysine/DNA complexes (AdpL) or polycationic liposomes mediated high reporter gene expression in dissociated primary human, fetal porcine, rat and mouse islet cells whereas gene transfer to intact islets was less efficient.     Sammanfattning : Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a major cause of mortality and long-term morbidity in prematurely born infants. Pulmonary inflammation, and abnormal alveolar and vascular development of the lung are histological characteristics of BPD. Interleukin (IL)-1β is a central cytokine in inflammation. LÄS MER
