    Författare :Tobias Svensson; Honar Cherif; Martin Höglund; Jan Sjölin; Christine Wennerås; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; Immunodeficiency; Hypogammaglobulinemia; IgG subclass; Pneumococci; Pneumococcal vaccine; Polysaccharide vaccine; Protein-conjugate vaccine; Aspergillosis; Bronchoalveolar lavage; Invasive fungal disease; Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia; Myelodysplastic syndrome; Azacitidine; Eltrombopag; Thrombocytopenia; Thrombopoietin receptor; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to improve knowledge about the prevention of infectious and bleeding complications in patients with hematological malignancies, primarily in those with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and myelodysplatic syndrome (MDS).Hypogammaglobulinemia, impaired production of immunoglobulins (Ig), is an established risk factor for infection, but the impact of IgG pure subclass deficiency (IgG subclass deficiency with adequate production of IgG, IgA, and IgM) has been debated. 2. 2. C-reactive protein (CRP) and anti-CRP autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus : a study on the occurrence and clinical implications of anti-CRP antibodies and CRP-mediated complement activation

    Författare :Christopher Sjöwall; Thomas Skogh; Johan Frostegård; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; autoantibodies; complement activation; C-reactive protein; cytokines; immune complex; immunoregulation; opsonization; systemic lupus erythematosus; Rheumatology; Reumatologi;

    Sammanfattning : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by production of a wide range of autoantibodies, multiple organ involvement and by local formation or tissue deposition of immune complexes (ICs) in the inflamed organs. In contrast to most systemic inflammatory conditions, and despite raised levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, SLE flares are rarely reflected by elevated C-reactive protein (CRP), an important acute-phase reactant in man with homologs in vertebrates and several invertebrates. 3. 3. Rational and Combinatorial Engineering of Affinity Proteins Towards Therapeutical Applications

    Författare :Johan Seijsing; Torbjörn Gräslund; Uhlén Mathias; Inger Sandlie; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neonatal Fc receptor; FcRn; affibody molecule; immunoglobulin G IgG ; serum albumin SA ; albumin binding domain ABD ; half-life extension; blocking; autoimmune disease; pH-dependence; GAD67; GAD-1; gene therapy; Parkinson’s disease; zinc finger based artificial transcription factor; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Protein engineering has had an immense impact on the development of biological drugs, including replacement therapies with engineered versions of insulin or factor VIII to treat diabetes or bleeding disorders, and monoclonal antibodies to treat cancer and various other malignancies. Now, with the next generation of treatment modalities coming up, including monoclonal reagents based on alternative scaffolds, gene and cell therapies, the importance of protein engineering to tailor-make these treatments is likely to increase further. Författare :Fawad Javed; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Bleeding gums; marginal bone loss; periodontal conditions; gutka; IgA mg protein; IgG mg protein; saliva; smoking; socioeconomic status; type 1 diabetes; type 2 diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : The association between periodontal inflammation and diabetes mellitus has been reported. However, the influence of hyperglycemia and gender in oral inflammation is still unclear. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Dynamics of the HIV-2-specific immunoglobulin A(IgA) response

    Författare :Qin Lizeng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Human; HIV; Immunology; Pathogenesis; Antibodies IgA IgG; Epitopes; Neutralization;

    Sammanfattning : Millions of lives are affected by infection with HIV, which causes AIDS if untreated. HIV transmission occurs primarily through sexual contact across mucosal surfaces. In the mucosal immune response, IgA is considered the first defense line against HIV invasion. LÄS MER
