    Sammanfattning : Under åren 1977–89 bedrev arkeologiska institutionen vid Umeå universitet en forskningsundersökning av en boplats från äldre järnålder på Genesmon i Själevad socken, norra Ångermanland.     Sammanfattning : This dissertation focuses on two distinct areas of study that do not have a predetermined or necessary connection to each other. The first area concerns issues of more immediate relevance to the cultural history of the Icelandic sagas, whereas the second area concerns issues of more general relevance to cultural memory research (Cultural Memory Studies, Kulturelles Gedächtnis) and what the author perceives as a deficiency or “blind spot” in this theory.     Sammanfattning : The National Heritage Board (Riksantikvarieämbetet) and Collegium Antiquitatum were established during the seventeenth century to safeguard the historical and antiquarian interests of the Swedish state. The civil servants who worked within these institutions were called antiquarians, and they were given the task of seeking out those ancient remains with which ”the fatherland could be illustrated.
