  1. 1. Effect of solvents during material treatment applications : tuning hydrophilicity of silicone rubber and drug loading in mesoporous silica

    Författare :Anna Hillerström; Jan van Stam; Lennart Piculell; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Solvents; liquid carbon dioxide; Interpenetrating Polymer Network IPN ; silicone rubber; hydrophilic; phase domains; mesoporous silica; ibuprofen; adsorption isotherms; release; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Choosing the right solvent is critical for many industrial applications. A useful property for selection of solvents is their solubility parameters. This concept of solubility parameters is central to this thesis and has been used in two different case studies of material treatment applications. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Studies of Micellar Electrokinetic Chromatography as an Analytical Technique in Pharmaceutical Analysis - an Industrial Perspective

    Författare :Karin Stubberud; Brian J. Clark; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Micellar Electrokinetic Chromatography; Pharmaceutical Analysis; Chemometrics; Validation; Mass Spectrometry; Partial-filling technique; Pilocarpine; Ibuprofen; Codeine.; Farmaceutisk kemi; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; analytisk farmaceutisk kemi; Analytical Pharmaceutical Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Studies have been performed to evaluate the use of micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEKC), one mode of capillary electrophoresis (CE), as an analytical technique in industrial pharmaceutical analysis. The potential for using chemometrics for the optimisation of MEKC methods has also been studied as well as the possibilities of coupling MEKC with mass spectrometry (MS). LÄS MER

  3. 3. Neurodevelopmental Consequences of Exposure to Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) and Related Drugs : Experimental studies in mice

    Författare :Gaëtan Philippot; Robert Fredriksson; Vesna Jevtovic-Todorovic; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; paracetamol acetaminophen ; developmental neurotoxicology; delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol THC ; ibuprofen; endocannabinoid system; neonatal mice; brain growth spurt; behavior; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Paracetamol (acetaminophen) is the analgesic pharmaceutical most commonly used during pregnancy and early life. While therapeutic doses of paracetamol are considered harmless during these periods, recent findings in both humans and rodents suggest a link between developmental exposure to paracetamol and behavioral consequences later in life. 4. 4. Bacterial colonisation and infection of the lower airways in cystic fibrosis : a microbiological and clinical study

    Författare :Ferenc Karpati; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :cystic fibrosis; sputum; Pseudomonas aeruginosa; Stenotrophomonas maltophilia; Burkholderia cepacia; PCR; AP-PCR; 16S RNA gene; DNA sequencing; heterogeneity; TNF-[alpha]; IL-8; ibuprofen;

    Sammanfattning : Pulmonary deterioration has remained the major cause of mortality in cystic fibrosis (C17) patients despite the considerable improvement of their survival due to more efficient therapy and centralised care. The progression of the CF lung disease is correlated to inflection with a limited number of colonising bacterial species. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Sorption and transformation of polar pharmaceuticals during wastewater treatment studied by hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction

    Författare :Estelle Larsson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pharmaceuticals; wastewater treatment; sludge; hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the application of hollow fiber liquid phase microextraction as a simple, efficient and environmentally friendly tool to study the fate of four common anti-inflammatory drugs (ketoprofen, naproxen, diclofenac and ibuprofen) during wastewater treatment. Initial experiments verified that this technique is applicable on aqueous as well as suspensions of solid samples, thus greatly simplifying the sample preparation. LÄS MER
