  1. 1. Drift ballooning and ITG instabilities in tokamak plasmas

    Författare :Bhanpersad Jhowry; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ballooning mode; torus; FLR effects; toroidal instabilities; reverse shear; elongation; ITG-mode;

    Sammanfattning : A major aim in fusion research is to understand, predict and control confined plasma instability in terms of equilibrium, stability and transport. Substantial progress has been made in recent years in understanding stability and transport in terms of MHD instability and drift wave instabilities. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Gyrokinetic simulations of turbulent transport in tokamak plasmas

    Författare :Andreas Skyman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fusion; TEM; ITG; tokamaks; e-science; Joint European Torus; turbulence; gyrokinetics; plasma physics; impurity transport;

    Sammanfattning : With the enormous growth of high performance computing (HPC) over the last few decades, plasma physicists have gained access to a valuable instrument for investigating turbulent plasma behaviour. In this thesis, these tools are utilised for the study of particle transport in fusion devices of the tokamak variety. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Microinstabilities in Advanced Tokamak and Stellarator Geometries

    Författare :Ansar Mahmood; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tokamaks; microinstabilities; fusion plasmas; ITG; drift waves; stellarators;

    Sammanfattning : The anomalous particle and heat transport observed in magnetically confined plasmas is generally attributed to plasma turbulence driven by short-scale instabilities, called microinstabilities. Understanding the stability limits of microinstabilities and their dependency on the equilibrium configuration is of paramount importance in the effort to predict the performance of future fusion devices such as the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). 4. 4. Influence of Geometry on Drift Waves in Tokamaks and Stellarators

    Författare :Tariq Rafiq; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ITG; local magnetic shear; linear instabilities; drift waves;

    Sammanfattning : There is a general consensus that drift waves are responsible for a large amount of transport in fusion experiments and it is of importance to investigate their linear stability and nonlinear evolution. These instabilities have therefore been intensively investigated in tokamaks for the last few decades. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Gyrokinetic simulations of turbulent particle and heat transport in tokamaks

    Författare :Daniel Tegnered; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tokamak; plasma physics; turbulence; transport; gyrokinetics; TEM; ITG; impurities; fusion; Joint European Torus;

    Sammanfattning : Fusion power is one of few viable sustainable means of energy production. The tokamak is arguable the most mature technology to magnetically confine fusion plasmas. In these devices, heat and particle transport is dominated by small-scale turbulent fluctuations. LÄS MER
