  1. 1. Effects of iron supplementation on iron status, health and neurological development in marginally low birth weight infants

    Författare :Staffan Berglund; Magnus Domellöf; Olle Hernell; Michael K Georgieff; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Auditory brainstem response; behavior; breast feeding; cognition; erythropoietin; ferritin; growth; hemoglobin; hepcidin; human infant; iron; iron deficiency; iron deficiency anemia; iron status; iron supplementation; low birth weight; morbidity; neurodevelopment; nutritional requirements; randomized controlled trial; Pediatrics; pediatrik;

    Sammanfattning : Background Due to small iron stores and rapid growth during the first months of life, infants with low birth weight (LBW) are at risk of iron deficiency (ID). ID in infancy is associated with irreversible impaired neurodevelopment. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Iron absorption in man - diet modification and fortification

    Författare :Michael Hoppe; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Iron absorption; Serum iron; Relative bioavailability; Elemental iron; Iron bioavailability; Iron fortification; Dietary modification; Developing countries;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Iron (Fe) deficiency is globally the most common form of nutrient deficiency. The approach to combat this problem can be divided into two major strategies a): increasing the dietary Fe bioavailability by diet modification, or b): increasing the Fe intake through fortification. 3. 3. Clinical effects of reduced iron content and fortification with bovine lactoferrin in infant formula

    Författare :Maria Björmsjö; Staffan K. Berglund; Olle Hernell; Mary Fewtrell; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; infant formula; lactoferrin; bovine lactoferrin; iron; iron supplementation; iron fortification; iron status; infant nutrition; cytokines; neurodevelopment; vaccine response; infection-related morbidity; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Breast milk, with its complex, individual and over time adapting composition, is considered the optimal source of nutrition for infants during the first months of life. Two possible contributing factors to the benefits of breastfeeding compared to infant formula-feeding are the differences in iron and lactoferrin (Lf) concentrations between breast milk and infant formula. Sammanfattning : As the major electricity consumer, electrical machines play a key role for global energy savings. Machine manufacturers put considerable efforts into the development of more efficient electrical machines for loss reduction and higher power density achievements. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Mitochondrial Iron Metabolism : Study of mitoferrin in Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Christoph Metzendorf; Maria Lind Karlberg; Kenneth Söderhäll; Martina Muckenthaler; Uppsala universitet; []
