16. Human ovarian surface epithelium and ovarian cancer. Aspects of growth regulation
Sammanfattning : The ovary is covered with a single layer of epithelial cells, the ovarian surface epithelium (OSE). The OSE is degraded during every menstrual cycle to enable ovulation, and is subsequently reconstituted to cover the rupture site. This single cell layer is proposed as the origin for about 90 % of all ovarian cancers. LÄS MER
17. Role of Neutrophils and Innate Immune Mechanisms in Urinary Tract Infections
Sammanfattning : Urinary tract infections (UTI) are among the most common infections in man. Despite their prevalence, information on the molecular mechanisms defects that explain the increased susceptibility to disease are lacking. LÄS MER
18. Studies on cytokines and chemokines in cerebrovascular diseases and experimental cerebral ischemia
Sammanfattning : Ischemic brain injury secondary to arterial occlusion, a major cause of stroke, is characterized by acute local inflammation, which involves the accumulation of polymorphonuclear neutrophils and other immune cells. Tissue damage resulting from ischemic stroke can be reduced in experimental animal models by blocking leukocyte accumulation. LÄS MER
19. Chemotactic factors in the human follicle at ovulation
Sammanfattning : Ovulation is initiated by the midcycle gonadotropin surge, which leads to a controlled degradation of the follicle wall ending in follicular rupture and oocyte extrusion. The gonadotropins triggers several biochemical and biophysical changes such as vascular alterations, increased proteolytic enzyme activity and leukocyte extravasation, within the preovulatory follicle. 20. Neuroinflammatory biomarkers in suicidal behavior
Sammanfattning : Immune dysregulation is of importance in the pathophysiology underlying psychiatric disorders including major depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Neurobiological alterations such as a dysregulated stress-hormonal axis and serotonergic alterations have been reported in suicide attempters at risk for subsequent suicide. LÄS MER
