16. Influence of FK506 on certain aspects of lymphocyte activation and lymphocyte-endothelial cell interactions in vitro
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis, the influence of the immunosuppressive drug FK506 on mitogen-induced changes in the expression of subunits a and ß of the IL-2 receptor by isolated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been studied. Up-regulation and release of the a-chain were potently depressed by FK506, even in the presence of exogenous IL-2. LÄS MER
17. Cardiovascular risk factors in renal artery stenosis : Effects of renal angioplasty and angiotensin II receptor antagonism
Sammanfattning : Renovascular hypertension (RVH) caused by atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (ARAS) is one of the most common forms of secondary hypertension. The prognosis for patients with RVH is much worse compared to patients with primary hypertension, and caused by a high cardiovascular morbidity. LÄS MER
18. Interleukin-6 as a mediator of insulin resistance
Sammanfattning : A potential role of interleukin (IL)-6 for the metabolic abnormalities seen in obesity and insulinresistance was postulated when it was discovered that circulating IL-6 levels were elevated in obeseand insulin-resistant as well as type 2 diabetic individuals. Later it was shown that the adipose tissuewas a major site of IL-6 production, accounting for 15-35% of the total circulating levels. LÄS MER
19. Leukocyte receptor alternations during systemic inflammatory responses
Sammanfattning : The leukocyte adhesion molecule CD llb is very important when granulocytes and monocytes leave the blood stream. This adhesion molecule is stored preformed intracellularly, and can upon stimulation of the cells by, for example, complement split products, be mobilized to the cell surface. LÄS MER
20. Activation of murine cytotoxic cells with interelukin-2 and the bacterial superantigen staphylococcal entertoxin A
Sammanfattning : Natural killer (NK) cells and T lymphocytes are the major effector cells that can recognize and kill tumor cells. NK cells have a constitutive cytotoxic activity and kill a wide spectrum of tumor cells while T cells recognize specific tumor antigens and need to be activated through their TCR to differentiate into cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) killers or T helper cells.
