21. THE INFLUENCE OF LACTOBACILLI AND STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS ON IMMUNE RESPONSIVENESS IN VITRO
Sammanfattning : Alteration of gut microbiota has been associated with development of immune mediated diseases, such as allergy. In part, this could be due to the influence of microbes in shaping the immune response. LÄS MER
22. T cells, Cytokines, and Genetic Factors in Autoimmunity Studies of experimental models of arthritis and sialadenitis
Sammanfattning : To understand the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases we have to consider the problem from different angles. Animal models provide a tool to further understand these complex diseases, as the influence of genetic and environmental factors could be limited. LÄS MER
23. Transforming Growth Factor-b, Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth Regulatory functions on normal lymphocytes and tumor outgrowth
Sammanfattning : Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-b) is a well-characterised growth regulatory factor, which acts on most cell types. This thesis has focused on the regulatory roles of TGF-b on normal lymphocytes. One interesting finding is that TGF-b acts both costimulatory and inhibitory on T-lymphocytes. LÄS MER
24. On CXC Chemokines in Endotoxin-Induced Liver Injury
Sammanfattning : Leukocyte recruitment is a rate-limiting step in endotoxemic liver injury. Leukocyte extravasation is a multistep process, supported by multiple combinations of adhesion molecules and chemokine receptors. This thesis examined the mechanisms of activation, adhesion and extravascular infiltration of leukocytes in endotoxin-induced liver injury. LÄS MER
25. Immunological effects of interferon-beta and glatiramer acetate in multiple sclerosis
Sammanfattning : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, which results in demyelination, axonal loss and neurological deficits. The aetiology is unknown, however, immunopathological events, which are believed to be of an autoimmune nature, are considered to be responsible for the development of the disease. LÄS MER
