11. Insulin treatment of elderly type 2 diabetic patients
Sammanfattning : In this study, the effect of improved metabolic control through insulin treatment was investigated in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes with secondary failure of oral treatment. Forty, consecutive, elderly patients (mean age 75.3 (5.9) (mean and SD), range 67-86 years) were studied. LÄS MER
12. Born too small or too early : effects on blood pressure, renal function and retinal vascularization in adulthood : experimental and clinical studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Several epidemiological studies the past fifteen years have suggested a connection between fetal growth retardation and later effects on adult health, such as an increased arterial blood pressure and type 2 diabetes mellitus. We studied the effects of fetal growth retardation in an experimental model were pregnant rats where given the synthetic glucocorticoid dexamethasone (DEX). LÄS MER
13. Growth factors and vasoactive substances in intrauterine growth restriction and preeclampsia
Sammanfattning : Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is, next to prematurity, the second leading cause of perinatal morbidity and mortality. To reduce perinatal morbidity and mortality it is important to identify such fetuses in utero in order to monitor their development, and to determine the most optimal time for delivery. LÄS MER
14. Endocrine aspects of obesity and weight reduction by bariatric surgery : with special emphasis on beta cell function
Sammanfattning : Severe obesity is the most predictive acquired risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes. Bariatric surgery induces marked weight loss and reverses the diabetic state significantly. LÄS MER
15. Proteolysis of insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1, -2 and -4 : function of fragments
Sammanfattning : The insulin-like growth factors (IGF-I and IGF-II) stimulate cell growth, survival and differentiation, and have insulin-like activity. A family of six IGF-binding proteins (IGFBP-1 through -6) bind to IGFs with high affinity and modulate their activity in the circulation and locally at cell-surface receptors. LÄS MER
