11. Studies on Tissue Factor with Focus on Cell Signaling and Cancer
Sammanfattning : This thesis have explored the functions of the protein Tissue Factor (TF), which together with its ligand coagulation factor VII/VIIa (FVII/FVIIa) forms a proteolytic complex that functions in initiation of blood coagulation and activation of cell signaling. In paper I, the mechanisms behind the observation that TF/FVIIa signaling protects cells from apoptosis were further investigated. 12. Stem cell signatures in glioma
Sammanfattning : Gliomas are the most common tumors of the central nervous system in adults. Glioblastoma, the most aggressive form, has a median survival of 15 months regardless of the standard treatment with surgery and temozolomide-based radiochemotherapy. Therefore, it is imperative to improve treatment options for patients with glioblastoma. LÄS MER
13. Building muscle : a translation of training adaptation
Sammanfattning : Training is preparation for what is expected to come through utilization of the plastic and resistive features of nature, known as adaptation. As such, training in humans may have a number of desired goals. These are typically related to sports performance or education. Whatever the goal, a plan needs to be made for reaching it. LÄS MER
14. Signaling to the immature brain - Choroid plexus, insulin-like growth factor 1 and extracellular vesicles
Sammanfattning : Extremely preterm infants (i.e., born below 28 gestational weeks), are at high risk of developing brain morbidities including intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and neurodevelopmental impairment. Despite over 50 years of research, there is currently no effective therapy available for preventing IVH. LÄS MER
15. Tailoring Radionuclide Therapy of Neuroendocrine Tumors - Bridging the Gaps
Sammanfattning : Background and Aims: Radionuclide therapy is systemic, targeted radiotherapy. As such, we can apply the basic principles of radiobiology used in everyday practice in radiation oncology, as a means of tailoring the treatment to each patient and optimizing the balance between efficacy and toxicity.
