16. Uveal melanoma and macular degeneration : molecular biology and potential therapeutic applications
Sammanfattning : Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignant tumor in adults with 30% to 50% of patients that ultimately succumb to metastatic disease, mainly to the liver. Although new diagnostic and therapeutic tools have been developed during the most recent years, only the eye conservation rate has been achieved, while the survival rate remains poor. LÄS MER
17. Synovial sarcoma : molecular, biological and clinical implications
Sammanfattning : Synovial sarcoma is a rare but mostly aggressive soft tissue tumor that mainly affects children and young adults. The tumor usually occurs in the vicinity of large joints, and may be subdivided into a classical biphasic type, a monophasic type or a poorly differentiated type, depending on histomorphological appearance. 18. Uveal melanoma : cytogenetics, molecular biology and tumor immunology
Sammanfattning : Uveal melanoma is the most common primary intraocular malignancy. The metastatic spread is hematogenous and exclusively to the liver. Although eye-sparing treatments are used more frequently the tumor-related mortality in uveal melanoma is still 30-50%. Only 2% of the patients have detectable metastases at the time of diagnosis. 19. Insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor, novel functions and future possibilities
Sammanfattning : Insulin like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) has been shown to be important for cancer cell growth and survival, and is often overexpressed in malignant and premalignant tissues. Ligand binding to IGF-1R induces transphosphorylation and activation of the receptor, leading to subsequent activation of the phosphatidyl inositol-3 kinase (PI3K), the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) and the 14-3-3 pathways. 20. Beta-arrestins in cancer : linking pro-tumorigenic extracellular activated signaling with the tumor suppressor p53 pathway
Sammanfattning : The IGF-1R is an important player in cancer development that maintains the malignant phenotype by inducing cell proliferation, survival, transformation, motility and invasiveness. Activation of IGF-R results in its Mdm2-dependent ubiquitination and degradation followed by MAPK signaling. LÄS MER
