  1. 1. Influenza A Virus : Spatial analysis of influenza genome trafficking and the evolution of the neuraminidase protein

    Författare :Dan Dou; Robert Daniels; Martin Schwemmle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Influenza A virus; IAV; neuraminidase; NA; IAV genome trafficking; viral entry; viral replication; co-infection; antigenic drift; antigenic shift; NA assembly; transmembrane domain; evolution; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Influenza A viruses (IAVs) are a common infectious agent that seasonally circulates within the human population that causes mild to severe acute respiratory infections. The severity of the infection is often related to how the virus has evolved with respect to the pre-existing immunity in the population. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Influenza Neuraminidase : Novel mechanisms of influenza NA that enable adaptation and promote diversification

    Författare :Hao Wang; Robert Daniels; Colin Russell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Influenza; IAV; neuraminidase; transmembrane domain; the central Ca2 binding site; heterotetrameric formation; viral incorporation; evolution; adaptation; diversification; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Influenza A viruses (IAVs) are one of the most common human respiratory pathogens and are largely responsible for the seasonal influenza epidemics that cause mild to severe disease. The two IAV glycoproteins, hemagglutinin (HA or H) and neuraminidase (NA or N), serve as the major surface antigens and also are the main determinants of infectivity, pathogenicity and transmissibility. 3. 3. NA transmembrane domain : Amphiphilic drift to accommodate two functions

    Författare :Johan Nordholm; Robert Daniels; Ervin Fodor; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; influenza; IAV; neuraminidase; NA; transmembrane domain; TMD; secretory protein; ER-targeting sequence; ER-targeting sequence coding region; protein regulation; NS1; GALLEX; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Sammanfattning : Neuraminidase (NA) is one of two major antigens on the surface of influenza A viruses. It is comprised of a single N-terminal transmembrane domain (TMD), a stalk domain, and a C-terminal enzymatic head domain that cleaves sialic acid, most notably to release new particles from the host cell surface. 4. 4. Viruses on the wing : evolution and dynamics of influenza A virus in the Mallard reservoir

    Författare :Michelle Wille; Jonas Waldenström; Timm Harder; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Co-infections; Ecology; Epidemiology; Evolution; Host-Parasite Interactions; Immunity; Influenza A Virus; Mallard; Phylogeny; Virology; Waterfowl; Wild Birds; Wildlife Disease; Zoonotisk ekologi; Zoonotic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the evolution of avian influenza A viruses (IAV), as well as host-pathogen interactions between these viruses and their main reservoir host, the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). IAV is a genetically diverse, multi-host virus and wild birds, particularly dabbling ducks, are the natural reservoir. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Avian Influenza Virus : Deciphering receptor interactions and their role in interspecies transmission

    Författare :Per Eriksson; Patrik Ellström; Björn Olsen; Josef D. Järhult; Åke Lundkvist; Jonas Waldenström; Hans-Dieter Klenk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; birds; glycobiology; glycovirology; host range; mixing vessel; virus attachment; Medical Virology; Medicinsk virologi;

    Sammanfattning : Influenza A virus (IAV) annually infects approximately 5–15 % of the human population, causing ~500,000 deaths globally. Novel IAVs have emerged and spread pandemically in the human population, but have over time established endemic circulation with reduced pathogenicity causing seasonal influenza. The natural reservoir of IAVs is wild waterfowl. LÄS MER
