  1. 21. Variability of blood pressure and heart rate in borderline and mild hypertension : With special reference to spectral analysis

    Författare :Reijo Takalo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; hypertension; blood pressure; ambulatory monitoring; power spectrum analysis; pulsecontour method; systemic hemodynamics; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study whether blood pressure (BP) or heart rate (HR) variability in borderline (BHT) and hypertensive (HT) subjects differs from that in normotensive (NT) subjects, and whether indices for BP and HR variability can be used in risk stratification for future hypertension. The study groups consisted of 35 NT, 29 BHT, and 34 HT middle-aged men. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Hypertension, atherosclerosis and fracture risk - observational investigations with focus on antihypertensive therapy

    Författare :Tove Bokrantz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epidemiology; hypertension; antihypertensive agents; fractures; peripheral arterial disease; bone density;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: To investigate associations between hypertension, arteriosclerotic disease, and fracture risk in adults and the elderly, with a certain focus on how specific antihypertensive drug treatments in patients with high blood pressure might affect the risk for fractures. Methods and results: In Study I and II, the associations between different antihypertensive treatments and fracture risk were investigated in a cohort of about 60. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Acute coronary syndromes. The prognostic importance of hypertension, diabetes and vectorcardiographic markers

    Författare :Markus Lingman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute coronary syndromes; hypertension; diabetes; percutaneous coronary intervention; prognosis; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery disease; electrocardiography; vectorcardiography; arrhythmia; sudden death; electrophysiology;

    Sammanfattning : Research questions: 1 Is hypertension and diabetes associated with the future risk of death, and recurrent manifestations of cardiovascular disease in acute coronary syndromes (ACS)? 2 How does myocardial ischemia affect depolarization and repolarization of the heart during the early phase of an acute myocardial infarction? 3 What is the prognostic value of accepted vectorcardiographic markers in relation to future risk of sudden cardiac death after ACS? Methodology: Papers I, III and IV studied patients with ACS prospectively and consecutively included at the coronary care unit of Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Paper I deals with 2,329 patients who were followed for a median of 8 years. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Hypertension, Atrial Fibrillation and Aldosteronism - A study of interplay, predictors and outcome

    Författare :Georgios Mourtzinis; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hypertension; Atrial fibrillation; Aldosteronism;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common significant arrhythmia, affecting almost 3% of the adult population in Sweden. Although AF is associated with increased risk of lower quality of life, heart failure, stroke and mortality, the therapeutically options are still limited. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Type 2 Diabetes in a Defined Population The Skaraborg Hypertension and Diabetes Project

    Författare :Carl Johan Östgren; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; HOMA; primary care; all-cause mortality; Pro12Ala; PPAR-gamma; survival; insulin resistance; beta-cell function; type 2 diabetes; hypertension; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : To examine cardiovascular risk factors, glycaemic control and survival in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) treated in primary care, patients with T2DM and a randomised age-stratified sample of men and women aged ≥40 years living in the same community were surveyed 1992-1994. ß–Cell function and insulin resistance were estimated using the Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA).
