21. Environmental Modelling : Learning from Uncertainty
Sammanfattning : Environmental models are important tools; however uncertainty is pervasive in the modeling process. Current research has shown that understanding and representing these uncertainties is critical when decisions are expected to be made from the modeling results. LÄS MER
22. Modeling flow and sediment transport in water bodies and watersheds
Sammanfattning : The research focus is on the various modeling aspects of flow and sediment transport in water bodies and watersheds. The interaction of flow with a mobile bed involves a complex process in which various turbulent scales characterized by coherent structures cause a chaotic sediment motion. LÄS MER
23. Green Urban Drainage Infrastructure : Hydrology and Modelling of Grass Swales
Sammanfattning : The management of urban runoff has evolved along with the advancement of understanding of runoff environmental impacts. Besides the impacts on water quality in the receiving waters, the impacts on the urban hydrologic regime include reduced infiltration by the sealing of pervious land, reduced evapotranspiration by removal of vegetation, and the resulting increase of stormwater runoff peaks and volumes causing flooding, and ultimately degradation of receiving waters. 24. Considering meteorological variation in assessments of environmental quality trends
Sammanfattning : Time series of environmental data are collected to monitor the effectiveness of new emission reduction policies or to determine the general state of the environment. However, small gradual changes in such variables can easily be concealed by large fluctuations caused by prevailing weather conditions. LÄS MER
25. Basal boundary conditions, stability and verification in glaciological numerical models
Sammanfattning : To increase our understanding of how ice sheets and glaciers interact with the climate system, numerical models have become an indispensable tool. However, the complexity of these systems and the natural limitation in computational power is reflected in the simplifications of the represented processes and the spatial and temporal resolution of the models.
