6. Carbon Monoxide in Catalytic Hydrogenations: A Poison or a Promoter?
Sammanfattning : The hydrogenation of a,b-unsaturated aldehydes was studied over a platinum catalyst. It was shown that the catalyst was rapidly deactivated by CO formed by decarbonylation of the aldehyde. This deactivation was suppressed by the addition of small amounts of oxygen to the feed, since CO was oxidized to CO2 in the presence of oxygen. LÄS MER
7. NHC,P- and N,P-Iridium Catalysts for Hydrogenations and Hydrogen Transfer Reactions
Sammanfattning : The work described in this thesis is focused on hydrogenation and hydrogen transfer reactions using iridium catalysts. The first part concerns the use of N-heterocyclic carbene-phosphine iridium complexes in alkylation reactions (Chapters 2 and 3) and the hydrogenation of ketones (Chapter 4). LÄS MER
8. Studies of Hydrogenations and Isomerizations of Olefins and Alkylations of Amines Using Iridium Catalysts
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes three types of reactions that were carried out using iridium catalysts. The first type is the iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of olefins. In paper I, the preparation of a new type of bicyclic thiazole-phosphine based iridium complex was described. LÄS MER
9. Studies on the intramolecular Claisen condensation and related reactions
Sammanfattning : Intramolecular Claisen or Claisen-like condensations of ß-acetoxy esters, amides or imides to ß-keto-5-lactones are described. Two compounds which can give either this reaction or the analogous reaction to y-lactone prefer to give the latter. LÄS MER
10. Synthesis of Novel Chiral Bicyclic Ligands and their Application in Iridium-Catalyzed Reactions
Sammanfattning : The synthesis of 2-aza-norborane derivatives is presented. The use of these compounds in preparation of Ir catalysts for asymmetric hydrogenations is described. The evaluation and optimization of the catalysts as well as the mechanistic aspects of the catalytic process are discussed. LÄS MER
