  1. 6. Novel electrode and photoelectrode materials for hydrogen production based on molecular catalysts

    Författare :Andrew J. Bagnall; Leif Hammarström; Vincent Artero; Sascha Ott; Alexander Cowan; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrochemical mechanism; hydrogen; artificial photosynthesis; molecular catalyst; hydrogen evolution; cobalt; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The PhD project focussed on the application of a cobalt tetraazamacrocyclic complex, in the literature commonly referred to as [Co(CR)Cl2]+ as a molecular catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This was within the broader scope of the EU MSCA H2020 ITN ‘eSCALED’ project, which primarily aimed to create artificial leaf devices for the storage of solar energy in chemical fuels and, as part of this, sought the development of novel bio-inspired and scalable materials. 2. 7. Graphite oxides for preparation of graphene related materials : structure, chemical modification and hydrogen storage properties

    Författare :Alexey Klechikov; Alexandr Talyzin; Tamás Szabó; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphite oxide; graphene oxide; hydrogen storage; nanomaterials; adsorption; surface area; pore volume; Materials Science; materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Carbon materials have been studied for hydrogen storage for decades, but they showed too low capacity at ambient temperature compared to target values for practical applications. This thesis includes two parts. First one is fundamental study of graphite oxides (GO) structure and properties. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Hunting Hydrogen : Structure-property relations in High Entropy Alloy-based metal hydrides

    Författare :Gustav Ek; Martin Sahlberg; Ulrich Häussermann; William I.F. David; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hydrogen; metal-hydride; High Entropy Alloy; Chemistry with specialization in Inorganic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Metal hydrides have many uses when switching the energy system from fossil fuels to renewable sources, such as rechargeable batteries, hydrogen storage, hydrogen compression and thermal storage. State of the art materials for these applications such as LaNi5 and TiFe, however, suffer certain limitations such as degradation during repeated hydrogen cycling and harsh activation conditions for initial hydrogen uptake, promoting the need for novel materials. Sammanfattning : Femtosecond laser-based fabrication technologies have seen rapid developments in the past decades, thanks to the capability of femtosecond lasers to induce localized multiphoton absorption in materials. Multiphoton absorption can result in various material modifications that can be leveraged for additive and subtractive manufacturing. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Recycling of nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries; Characterization and recovery of nickel, AB5 alloy and cobalt

    Författare :Filip Holmberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Sammanfattning : Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries are used today for applications that can assist in the adaptation toward carbon-neutral energy sources (i.e. hybrid vehicles and smart grids). Recovery of metals such as nickel, cobalt and rare earth elements (REEs) from discarded NiMH batteries is important for economic and/or technological reasons. LÄS MER
