  1. 1. Cellulose-water interaction: a spectroscopic study

    Författare :Erik L Lindh; István Furó; Lennart Salmén; Lisbeth G Thygesen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cellulose; water; hydrogen exchange; deuterium; NMR spectroscopy; FT-IR spectroscopy; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The human society of today has a significantly negative impact on the environment and needs to change its way of living towards a more sustainable path if to continue to live on a healthy planet. One path is believed to be an increased usage of naturally degradable and renewable raw materials and, therefore, attention has been focused on the highly abundant biopolymer cellulose. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Deuterium isotopomers as a tool in environmental research

    Författare :Tatiana Betson; Jürgen Schleucher; Peter Högberg; Richard Robins; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; deuterium; NMR; isotopomers; CO2 response; climate reconstruction; persistent pollutants; stable isotopes; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the development and the use of quantitative deuterium Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy (NMR) as a tool in two areas of environmental research: the study of long term climate-plant interactions and the source tracking of persistent organic pollutant. Long-term interactions between plants and climate will influence climate change during this century and beyond, but cannot be studied in manipulative experiments. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Method Development in Quantitative and Structural Proteomics using Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry

    Författare :Charlotte Hagman; Per Håkansson; Jonas Bergquist; Jos Buijs; Michael Przybylski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; Cerebrospinal Fluid; Electrospray Ionization; Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance Mass Spectrometry; Global Markers; High Performance Liquid Chromatography; Gas-Phase Exchange; Hydrogen Deuterium Exchange; Plasma; Protoemics; Quantification; Structural Elucidation; Bioteknik; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, methods for studying different aspects of proteomics were developed with Fourier Transform Ion Cyclotron Resonance, (FTICR), mass spectrometry. The FTICR technique provides ultra-high mass resolving power, mass accuracy at sub ppm level and sensitivity in the attomole region. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Method and technique development in peptide and protein mass Spectrometry

    Författare :Kristina Håkansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; electrospray ionization; peptide sequencing; Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance; hydrogen deuterium exchange; protein structure; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Molecular Biotechnology; Molekylär bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Mechanistic studies and applicability of several methods and techniques for studying peptides and proteins with mass spectrometry are presented. A model for the protein molecular ion formation in explosive matrix-assisted plasma desorption mass spectrometry is proposed, involving a contribution from the chemical energy release during conversion of the explosive, an enhanced protonation through collisions with products from the explosive decay, and electron scavenging by other products. Sammanfattning : Capillary electrophoresis with mass spectrometric (CE–MS) detection offers a separation method without equal in terms of flexibility, utility, and cost efficiency. Here we demonstrate precisely this through the application of several laboratory-built CE–MS instruments for the separation of brain metabolites in non-primates, enantioselective separations of synthetic anesthetic metabolites in fractionated pony urine, application in structural proteomics workflows, and identification of exogenous alkaloid biotransformationproducts in human cerebrospinal fluid (CSF).
