1. A multidisciplinary approach: geophysics, hydrochemistry and hydrometeorology for addressing water security in semiarid alluvial fans
Sammanfattning : Water security offers to the local population an adequate quality and quantity of water for health, economy, livelihoods and ecosystems. Hence, achieving basic levels of water security should be a priority in areas where access to fresh water is scarce. LÄS MER
2. Environmental Effects of Agricultural Expansion in the Upper Amazon : A study of river basin geochemistry and hydrochemistry, and farmers' perceptions
Sammanfattning : In this thesis natural science is combined with environmental psychology in order to determine how deforestation and subsequent agricultural expansion in the Peruvian highland jungle has affected the natural environment and rural livelihoods. This region is part of one of the most biodiverse areas on Earth and is also exposed to high pressure from deforestation that threatens the ecosystems as well as the well-being of local populations. 3. Arctic Climate and Water Change : Information Relevance for Assessment and Adaptation
Sammanfattning : The Arctic is subject to growing economic and political interest. Meanwhile, its water and climate systems are in rapid transformation. Relevant and accessible information about water and climate is therefore vital to detect, understand and adapt to the changes. LÄS MER
4. Groundwater chemistry affected by underground construction activities
Sammanfattning : A leaking underground construction increases the groundwater recharge and decreases the residence time of the groundwater. If groundwater of a certain chemical composition dominated the location inside the bedrock of a planned tunnel prior to the construction phase, this water is likely to be replaced by water of a different chemical type because of leakage of water into the tunnel during the construction and operational phases. 5. Groundwater resources management and protection policies in India
Sammanfattning : Water is a basic human need, afinite source of life support system, having its economicvalues being the key to the prosperity. The effects ofindustrial-pollutant sources on the groundwater system wereevaluated at Ludhiana, Punjab, India. LÄS MER
