  1. 1. Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 proteinase : regulation of function and catalytic activity

    Författare :Laura Goobar-Larsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : HIV-l proteinase activity is a prerequisite for viral replication, and one of the main targets for anti-HlV therapy. Although potent proteinase inhibitors are currently being approved for treatment of AIDS patients, these drugs are unlikely to provide treatment which can give patients a life of normal quality and duration. 2. 2. Immune recognition and early virus-cell interactions. Glycobiological aspects on HIV-1 gp120

    Författare :Gregers J. Gram; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 HIV-1 ; glycoprotein; gp120; glycosylation.;

    Sammanfattning : Human immunodeficiency virus types 1 and 2 (HIV-1 and HIV-2) are the etiological agents of AIDS in humans. The viral envelope glycoproteins gp120 and gp41 mediate the early virus-cell interaction of HIV with the target cells. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The battleground of two Infections and a cancer: Human Papilloma Virus, premalignant lesions of the cervix and their interaction with Human Immunodeficiency Virus in southwestern Nigeria

    Författare :Oliver Ezechi; Socialmedicin och global hälsa; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antiretroviral drugs; Human papilloma virus; cervical cancer; HIV AIDS; pre-cancerous lesions; Nigeria;

    Sammanfattning : Background: The highest numbers of HIV-infected women are in sub- Saharan Africa, where the natural progression of HIV disease in the absence of treatment results in death before the onset of invasive cervical cancer. With improved access to treatment, several studies outside West Africa demonstrated an increased risk of pre-invasive cervical lesions among HIV-infected women and the positive impact of treatment on the outcome. 4. 4. HIV-1 infection of the central nervous system. Markers of pathogenesis and antiretroviral treatment effects

    Författare :Sahra Abdulle; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HIV-1; cerebrospinal fluid; antiretroviral therapy; neopterin; beta2-microglobulin; CSF HIV-1 RNA; blood-brain barrier; IgG index; HIV-related neurological diseases; AIDS Dementia Complex; neurofilament protein; HIV-1 genetic subtypes;

    Sammanfattning : Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) invades the central nervous system (CNS) early in the course of infection and either directly or through opportunistic infections causes a spectrum of neurological complications. The most severe manifestation of HIV-1 CNS infection is AIDS Dementia Complex (ADC), which occurs in approximately 20% of untreated patients with AIDS. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Studies on genital ulcer disease in Tanzania. Aetiology with special reference to Haemophilus ducreyi, association with human immunodeficiecy virus infection, and human papilloma virus

    Författare :Judica Mbwana; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :GUD; H. ducreyi; HSV-2; HIV-1; HdCDT; ELISA; RAPD; PCR; HPV;

    Sammanfattning : Genital ulcer diseases (GUD) caused by Haemophilus ducreyi, Treponema pallidum and herpessimplex type 2 (HSV-2) are an important health problem in many developing countries. Ulcerativesexually transmitted infections (STIs) have been associated with increased acquisition andtransmission of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). LÄS MER
