1. Human Endometrial Angiogenesis : An Immunohistochemical Study of the Endometrial Expression of Angiogenic Growth Factors and Their Corresponding Receptors
Sammanfattning : The human endometrium undergoes dramatic changes in morphology and function during the menstrual cycle. Recurrent angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels) is of utmost importance for oxygen supply and nourishment of the rapidly growing endometrial tissue. LÄS MER
2. Tissue engineering in blood vessels
Sammanfattning : Severely occluded coronary- and peripheral arteries, caused by atherosclerotic plaques, are treated with bypass surgery. Autologous veins are the most commonly used replacement graft. Among the patients that need a vascular bypass, 5-10% lack appropriate replacement veins due to previous surgery of bad quality of the vessels. LÄS MER
3. Effects of Ischaemia on the Neuroretina and Retinal Blood Vessels
Sammanfattning : Identification of the intracellular signal transduction pathways activated in retinal ischaemia may be important in revealing novel pharmacological targets. The retinal blood vessels are key organs in circulatory failure, and in this work the retinal vasculature was therefore examined separately from the neuroretina. LÄS MER
4. Reactivity of human omental blood vessels. Effects of 5-hydroxytryptamine, substance P and the intravenous anaesthetic propofol
Sammanfattning : Regulation of blood flow involves several endogenous substances and mechanisms, and exogenous substances may also affect the blood flow. In the present thesis, human omental blood vessels were investigated in vitro concerning (i) characteristics of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptors; (ii) mediators of substance P (SP)-induced relaxation; (iii) direct and indirect (via effects on sympathetic neurotransmission) effects of the intravenous anaesthetic propofol. 5. The human Achilles tendon : innervation and intratendinous production of nerve signal substances - of importance in understanding the processes of Achilles tendinosis
Sammanfattning : Tendinopathies are painful tendon conditions of presumably multifactorial genesis. In tendinosis, as in Achilles tendinosis, there is apart from pain also morphological changes which are described as degenerative with no signs of inflammation. The exact mechanisms behind these conditions are still, to a large extent, unknown. LÄS MER
