1. Human intestinal alkaline phosphatase : tissue expression and serum levels
Sammanfattning : Human alkaline phosphatase (ALP) comprises four isozymes, viz liver/bone/ kidney or tissue unspecific (AP), intestinal (LAP), placental (PLAP) and germ cell or PLAP-like alkaline phosphatase, with their main expression in specific tissues as indicated by their names. The isozymes are coded by different genes, but they are closely related, with more than 50% amino acid sequence homologies. LÄS MER
2. Human Bone Alkaline Phosphatase Isoforms
Sammanfattning : Determination of serum total alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is frequently requested in clinical routine, mostly to estimate skeletal and hepatobiliary status. In this respect, clarification of the various ALP isoenzymes and isoforms contributing to the total ALP activity could be valuable in daily medical decision making. LÄS MER
3. Structural / functional studies on human alkaline phosphatases
Sammanfattning : The recent elucidation of the three-dimensional structure of human placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) has enabled me to perform structural studies aimed at characterizing the properties of human PLAP and tissue-nonspecific AP (TNAP) as paradigms for mammalian APs in general, using site-directed mutagenesis, protein expression, kinetic analysis and computer modeling. In Paper I, we found that a single critical E429G substitution explains the difference in stability and kinetics between the common allelic variants of PLAP and the D allozyme. LÄS MER
4. The significance of placental and placental-like alkaline phosphatases in tumor biology and their potential use in clinical practice
Sammanfattning : Placental alkaline phosphatase (PLAP) is a membrane bound enzyme normally synthesized by the syncytiotrophoblasts in the human placenta. Recent studies have indicated that trace amounts of placental-like alkaline phosphatases also are present in several normal organs like testes and endocervix. LÄS MER
5. Bone alkaline phosphatase isoforms in chronic kidney disease : mineral and bone disorder
Sammanfattning : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with increased mortality and cardiovascular complications. Disturbances in mineral metabolism occur early In study I we identified the novel BALP isoform Blx in 20% of patients with mild to moderate CKD. LÄS MER
