  1. 1. Future Technology Support of Command and Control : Assessing the impact of assumed future technologies on cooperative command and control

    Författare :Mats Persson; Else Nygren; Tim Grant; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; command; control; cooperative; collaboration; decision-making; effectiveness; human-computer interaction; microworld; network-centric; military; team; beslutsfattande; effektivitet; ledning; mikrovärld; militär; människa-datorinteraktion; nätverkscentrerad; samarbete; team; Datavetenskap med inriktning mot människa-datorinteraktion; Computer Science with specialization in Human-Computer Interaction;

    Sammanfattning : In response to technological advances, especially in the field of information and communication technology (ICT), the so called revolution in military affairs (RMA) and later the concept of network-centric warfare (NCW) emerged as a theory to further utilize technology for military command and control (C2). Advocates of the Swedish ROLF 2010-vision and the concept of NCW have made claims and assumptions that future technology will improve mission effectiveness by, for example, increasing the understanding of a current situation and its development, the speed of command, and providing means to utilize more efficient forms of organizations. 2. 2. The Informed Gaze : On the Implications of ICT-Based Surveillance

    Författare :Baki Cakici; Magnus Boman; Nina Wormbs; Markus Bylund; Harald Rohracher; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; ICT; discourse; surveillance; design; sustainability; outbreak detection; Computer and Systems Sciences; data- och systemvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Information and communication technologies are not value-neutral. I examine two domains, public health surveillance and sustainability, in five papers covering: (i) the design and development of a software package for computer-assisted outbreak detection; (ii) a workflow for using simulation models to provide policy advice and a list of challenges for its practice; (iii) an analysis of design documents from three smart home projects presenting intersecting visions of sustainability; (iv) an analysis of EU-financed projects dealing with sustainability and ICT; (v) an analysis of the consequences of design choices when creating surveillance technologies. 3. 3. Design for Places of Collaboration

    Författare :Alexandra Petrakou; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Boundary Objects; Collaborative Settings; Computer-Supported Cooperative Work CSCW ; Design; Place; Places of Collaboration; Space; Collaboration; Computer-Supported Cooperative Work; Design; Design; Computer Science; Datavetenskap; Information Systems; Informatik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis reports a research effort that comprises six papers and a cover paper. In essence, the thesis contributes to the understanding of collaborative settings by introducing the perspective of 'places of collaboration‘. This perspective is particularly important when designing computer-based technologies that support collaborative settings. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Making travel sustainable with ICT? : The social practice of travel planning and travel information use in everyday life

    Författare :Åsa Nyblom; Mattias Höjer; Greger Henriksson; Marie Thynell; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; NATURVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; HUMANIORA; NATURAL SCIENCES; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANITIES; Travel planning; travel information; travel information services; travel planners; sustainable social practices; practice theory; everyday life; ICT; urban transport; user-centred perspective; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Adopting the perspective of the traveller, this thesis examines how travel plans are actually made in the everyday situation and how information is used and drawn on when planning the many, often unremarkable, trips of ordinary urban life. Ethnographical field studies in southern Stockholm, Sweden, employing a practice theory perspective showed that people use a vast mixture of different types of information when planning and making trips.     Nyckelord :HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; HUMANIORA; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SOCIAL SCIENCES; HUMANITIES; design; interaction design; design theory; aesthetics; aesthetics of being together; aesthetics of interaction; design practices; design research practice; research through design; practice based research; constructive design research; social media; technological mediation; social platforms; digital interactions; social interaction; group interaction; social dynamics; perceptual crossing; intersubjectivity; Aesthetics; estetik; design; design;

    Sammanfattning : Design deals with matters of aesthetics. Historically, aesthetics in industrial design refers to the designed artifact: aesthetics of objects. When designed artifacts include digital technologies, aesthetics in design refers to what happens between people and artifacts as well: aesthetics of interaction. LÄS MER
