    Sammanfattning : Nutrient-efficient and high-yielding spring wheat is needed in high-latitude regions. The aims of this thesis were: (1) to evaluate the effects of soil compaction and differential weather conditions on plant growth and grain yield, (2) to identify critical nutrient elements limiting plant growth and grain yield, and (3) to identify root and shoot traits at an early growth stage (early vigor) influencing nutrient use efficiency and grain yield of spring wheat.     Sammanfattning : Modulation of mRNA translation via the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway is primarily achieved by integrating internal or external signals onto the translation machinery, especially on the rate-limiting initiation step during mRNA translation.     Sammanfattning : Applications of magnetic materials are inherently related to their crystal, magnetic and electronic structures. In this thesis, experimental and theoretical methods have been focused on magnetic bulk materials from novel chemical synthesis, to X-ray diffraction for initial phase characterisation, and crystal and magnetic structure studies to explain their complex magnetic properties.
