21. Characterisation of molecular alterations in diffuse large b-cell lymphoma with respect to transformation, progression and prognostic markers
Sammanfattning : Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common lymphoma type, and comprises nearly 500 newly diagnosed cases in Sweden every year. DLBCL is a group of aggressive lymphomas that are extremely heterogeneous and differ in morphology, immunophenotype, molecular and clinical features as well as in response to therapy. LÄS MER
22. Studies on anti-leukemic terpenoids from medicinal mushrooms and marine sponges with ChemGPS-NP-based targets investigation of lead compounds
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the anti-leukemic activity of terpenoids isolated from medicinal mushrooms and marine sponges, as well as their possible targets and mechanisms of action. In the first section, we focused on studying the triterpenoidal components of three triterpenoid-enriched medicinal mushrooms Antrodia cinnamomea, Ganoderma lucidum, and Poria cocos, which have been used in folk medicine for centuries and also developed into several contemporary marketed products. 23. Novel immunologic cellular mechanisms in atherosclerosis and potential therapeutic implications
Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis, an arterial ailment, is a major cause of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which cause more than 17 million deaths each year and the number is expected to rise. In recent years atherosclerosis has been shown to be an inflammatory condition involving activated immunocompetent cells, including T-cells, macrophages and dendritic cells (DC), but the mechanism by which these cells are activated remains to be elucidated in detail. 24. Characterization of proteins involved in differentiation and apoptosis of human leukemia and epithelial cancer cells
Sammanfattning : Today, cancer is understood as an epigenetic as well as a genetic disease. The main epigenetic hallmarks of the cancer cell are DNA methylation and histone modifications. The latter changes may be an optimal target for novel anticancer agents. LÄS MER
25. Transcriptional biomarkers of toxicity – powerful tools or random noise? : An applied perspective from studies on bivalves
Sammanfattning : Aquatic organisms are constantly at risk of being exposed to potentially harmful chemical compounds of natural or anthropogenic origin. Biological life can for instance respond to chemical stressors by changes in gene expression, and thus, certain gene transcripts can potentially function as biomarkers, i.e. LÄS MER
