  2. 7. Host-pathogen interactions between Francisella tularensis and Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Malin Vonkavaara; Svenja Stöven; Ingrid Faye; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; arthropod vector; JNK; lipopolysaccharide; antimicrobial peptides; Clinical Bacteriology; klinisk bakteriologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Francisella tularensis is a highly virulent Gram-negative bacterium causing the zoonotic disease tularemia. Arthropod-borne transmission plays an important role in transferring the disease to humans. F. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Host-pathogen interactions in severe group A streptococcal infections

    Författare :Pontus Thulin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes, also called group A Streptococcus (GAS), is an important human pathogen ranked number 9 on the list of global killer pathogens. It causes a wide spectrum of disease, including uncomplicated superficial infections of the skin and throat, to life-threatening invasive infections and post-streptococcal sequelae. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Interaction Between Drosophila melanogaster mbn-2 Cells and Bacteria

    Författare :Karin Johansson; Kenneth Söderhäll; Lage Cerenius; Martin Bilej; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; Drosophila; innate immunity; bacteria; host - pathogen interaction; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Innate immunity relies on a repertoire of germline-encoded non-rearranging pattern recognition receptors that bind to invariant microbial surface molecules. This event initiates a number of signal transduction cascades that lead to humoral and cellular defense responses like synthesis of antimicrobial peptides, phagocytosis and coagulation – mechanisms that efficiently fight infectious microorganisms and have been evolutionary conserved to exist in parallel with the antibody-based adaptive immunity found in vertebrates. 5. 10. Biology of a small RNA virus that infects Drosophila melanogaster

    Författare :Sajna Anand Sadanandan; Dan Hultmark; Francis Jiggins; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nora virus; Drosophila melanogaster; virus biology; host-pathogen interaction; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Drosophila melanogaster has been extensively used as a model organism to study diverse facets of biology, including host-pathogen interactions and the basic biology of its pathogens. I have used the fruit fly as a model to study elementary aspects of Nora virus biology, such as the role of the different proteins encoded by the virus genome. LÄS MER
