6. Modelling the microstructure, the mechanical response of rock material and the relationship between them
Sammanfattning : Rock material heterogeneity is one of most important intrinsic properties of geological materials. The need to quantify and model this heterogeneity is a key point for the prediction of the rock fragmentation behaviour through simulation. In this thesis both microstructure and mechanical heterogeneity are analysed. LÄS MER
7. Characterization of the Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition Combustion Process
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this project was to characterize the HCCI combustion process. Central parts in the project were the progress of the HCCI combustion process, the influence of charge homogeneity on the combustion process and sources of UHC and CO emissions in HCCI combustion. 8. Eco-friendly Holocellulose Materials for Mechanical Performance and Optical Transmittance
Sammanfattning : Cellulosic materials can be sustainable replacements for fossil-based plastics; yet for some applications improvements are needed for mechanical properties, optical transmittance and eco-friendly characteristics. In this thesis, holocellulose materials are investigated for this purpose, and processing-structure-property relationships are discussed. LÄS MER
9. Tribological behaviour of HVAF-sprayed WC-based coatings: : Role of process variables and binder chemistry
Sammanfattning : Tungsten carbide (WC) based metallic matrix coatings sprayed using high velocity air fuel (HVAF) technique have attracted increasing attention as they show excellent tribological performance in various wear conditions. In the HVAF method, particles’ in-flight temperature and velocity can be influenced by the process variables including nozzle configuration as well as feedstock particle size range. LÄS MER
10. Drying and thermal modification of wood - studies on influence of sample size, batch size, and climate on wood response
Sammanfattning : Research on wood drying and wood modification is primarily done in laboratories, using clear wood specimens treated under well-defined conditions in laboratory cabinets. Laboratory tests differ from industrial treatment both regarding the size and homogeneity of the material treated, and the size of the batch and kiln used. LÄS MER
