  1. 1. Genetic Risk Factors for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus : From Candidate Genes to Functional Variants

    Författare :Anna-Karin Abelson; Marta Alarcón-Riquelme; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Systemic Lupus Erythematosus; SLE; association study; complex disease; genetic; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis has been to identify genetic variants that increase the susceptibility for Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), an autoimmune disease caused by a complex interplay between various genetic and environmental factors. Five different candidate genes were selected through different strategies, and were analysed for association with SLE in an attempt to distinguish some of the underlying mechanisms of this disease. 2. 2. The genetic contribution to stroke in northern Sweden

    Författare :Tomas Janunger; Dan Holmberg; Holger Luthman; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Northern Sweden; stroke; genetics; genome wide scan; association; 5q13; 9q31-33; Medical genetics; Medicinsk genetik; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a common multi factorial cerebrovascular disorder with a large impact on global health. It is a disorder primarily associated with old age but environmental factors, lifestyle choices and medical history are all important for the risk of developing the disorder. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Analysis of genetic susceptibility to cervical cancer using candidate gene and GWAS approaches

    Författare :Ivana Juko-Pecirep; Ulf Gyllensten; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cervical cancer; association study; human papillomavirus; genetics; complex disease; TMC6; TMC8; MHC region; Medical Genetics; Medicinsk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Cervical cancer is the forth most commonly diagnosed cancer among women worldwide. It is caused by persistent infection with an oncogenic type of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The HPV is a necessary but not sufficient cause of cervical cancer. LÄS MER

  4. 4. QTL Analysis in the Pig : From the Identification of Quantitative Trait Loci to the Understanding of Molecular Mechanisms

    Författare :Ellen Markljung; Leif Andersson; Göran Andersson; Göran Hjälm; Stefan Marklund; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Domestic pigs have become very different form the wild ancestors they originate from. Selection for muscle growth and meat quality has made the pig a good model for genetic studies of muscle development.The first part of this thesis presents a genome-wide scan for quantitative trait loci (QTL) in a cross between Landrace and Hampshire pigs. 5. 5. Genetic Analysis of Quantitative Traits Using Domestic Animals : A Candidate Gene and Genome Scanning Approach

    Författare :Hee-Bok Park; Leif Andersson; Stefan Marklund; Robert Fredricksson; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Domestication; horse; pig; chicken; quantitative traits; candidate gene; genome scan; PRKAG3; MC4R; selection experiment; growth; correlated response; metabolic disorders; Quantitative Trait Loci; linkage; single nucleotide polymorphisms; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Domestication has led to genetic changes that affect quantitative traits in farm animals. Both candidate gene analysis using association tests and genome scans based on linkage analysis have been performed to understand the molecular basis underlying quantitative genetic variation in horses, pigs and chickens.
