1. Craniopharyngioma. Morbidity and Structural Changes in the Brain
Sammanfattning : Hypothalamus (HT) is a brain structure which serves as a coordination center for several vital body functions. Craniopharyngioma (CP) is a pituitary tumor with high morbidity, primarily due to HT lesion. LÄS MER
2. Non-invasive imaging for improved cardiovascular diagnostics : Shear wave elastography, relative pressure estimation, and tomographic reconstruction
Sammanfattning : Throughout the last century, medical imaging has come to revolutionise the way we diagnose disease, and is today an indispensable part of virtually any clinical practice. In cardiovascular care imaging is extensively utilised, and the development of novel techniques promises refined diagnostic abilities: ultrasound elastography allows for constitutive tissue assessment, 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) enables full-field flow mapping, and micro-Computed Tomography (CT) permits high-resolution imaging at pre-clinical level. 3. The Kidney in Different Stages of the Cardiovascular Continuum
Sammanfattning : Patients with chronic kidney disease are at higher risk of developing cardiovascular disease. The complex, interaction between the kidney and the cardiovascular system is incompletely understood, particularly at the early stages of the cardiovascular continuum. LÄS MER
4. Effect of antihypertensive treatment at different blood pressure levels
Sammanfattning : BackgroundHigh blood pressure is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death. The shape of association between blood pressure and the risk of cardiovascular events is debated. Some researchers suggest that the association is linear or log-linear, whereas others suggest it is J-shaped. LÄS MER
5. Vascular Effects of P2 Receptors. Changes in Congestive Heart Failure
Sammanfattning : Extracellular nucleotides induce dilatation and constriction of blood vessels by activation of P2 receptors. In this thesis the vasomotor effects of P2 receptor activation were studied in the rat mesenteric artery, and their changes in congestive heart failure (CHF) were evaluated using in vitro pharmacology, electrophysiology and competitive RT-PCR.
