  1. 1. Osteoarthritis. Epidemiologic and genetic aspects

    Författare :Jonas Franklin; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; body mass index; knee; hip; epidemiology; Osteoarthritis; occupation; hip fracture; inheritance; natural history;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to (I) assess the association between body mass index (BMI) and total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR) due to osteoarthritis (OA), (II) assess the association between the mechanical load of work and THR and TKR due to OA, (III) evaluate the natural history of radiographic hip OA with regards to THR and hip fracture, (IV) to determine the prevalence of radiographic OA in patients with hip fracture, and (V) to examine and compare the inheritance patterns of THR for OA and hip fracture. OA was previously regarded as a consequence of the wear and tear the joint is subjected to during one’s lifetime. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Hip disorders and osteoarthritis: focus on health-related quality of life, assesssment and intervention

    Författare :Anne Sundén; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; physiotherapy; intervention; hip; osteoarthritis; health-related quality of life; physical function; self-efficacy; Tai Chi; patient education;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims of this work were to investigate the consequences of hip disorders and hip osteoarthritis (OA) on health-related quality of life (HRQL) physical function and self-efficacy. The condition, hip OA, is often associated with significant pain and has a strong impact on physical function and quality of life. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis : Who Are the Patients Referred to First-Line Intervention and What Happens to Them?

    Författare :Kristin Gustafsson; Joanna Kvist; Ola Rolfson; Marit Eriksson; Charlotte Häger; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Background: First-line intervention to address osteoarthritis (OA) should include patient education, exercise therapy, and weight control if needed. Replacement surgery may be appropriate for patients who do not receive sufficient relief from non-surgical interventions. However, predicting the course of OA can be challenging. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Osteoarthritis of the Hip and Uncemented Total Hip Arthroplasty : Effects of Immediate Weight Bearing on Implant Stability, Bone Mineral Density, and Body Composition

    Författare :Olof Wolf; Hans Mallmin; Sune Larsson; Jan Milbrink; Per Mattsson; Per Adolphson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Osteoarthritis of the hip; uncemented; total hip arthroplasty; stability; RSA; BMD; DXA; body composition; weight bearing; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Sammanfattning : The initial recommendation for the postoperative regime after uncemented total hip arthroplasty (THA) was 6-12 weeks of partial weight bearing (PWB) to obtain a stable implant position during bone ingrowth. In recent years patients with uncemented THA have increasingly practiced full weight bearing (FWB) after surgery, which has largely been based on clinical experience rather than on scientific evidence. 5. 5. Epidemiology of osteoarthritis in Sweden. Register and cohort studies on prevalence and mortality

    Författare :Aleksandra Turkiewicz; Lund Ortopedi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epidemiology; Osteoarthritis; Knee; Hip; Radiography; Mortality; Registers; Missing data;

    Sammanfattning : Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis and often causes pain and functional impairment. Despite its high burden on society, knowledge about the occurrence of OA and its associated mortality is sparse. LÄS MER
