  1. 1. Stable High-Order Finite Difference Methods for Aerodynamics

    Författare :Magnus Svärd; Jan Nordström; Thomas Hagstrom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; finite difference methods; high-order accuracy; summation-by-parts; stability; energy estimates; finite volume methods; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap; Numerical Analysis;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the numerical solution of time-dependent partial differential equations (PDE) is studied. In particular high-order finite difference methods on Summation-by-parts (SBP) form are analysed and applied to model problems as well as the PDEs governing aerodynamics. LÄS MER

  2. 2. High Order Symmetric Finite Difference Schemes for the Acoustic Wave Equation

    Författare :Abraham Zemui; Bertil Gustafsson; Leif Abrahamsson; Per Weinerfelt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; finite element method; mass lumping; high order; finite difference method; wave equation; Numerical Analysis; Numerisk analys;

    Sammanfattning : When someone speaks, or when a piano is played, sound waves are spread through the room. Physically the propagation of sound is governed by the acoustic wave equation. This thesis deals with the problem of finding solutions to this equation by numerical methods. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Partial differential equations (PDEs) are used to model various phenomena in nature and society, ranging from the motion of fluids and electromagnetic waves to the stock market and traffic jams. There are many methods for numerically approximating solutions to PDEs. LÄS MER

  4. 4. A new high-order method for direct numerical simulations of turbulent wall-bounded flows

    Författare :Peter Lenaers; Arne Johansson; Hans Kuerten; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Incompressible wall-bounded flows; direct numerical simulations; high-order; compact finite differences; collocated grid; influence matrix method;

    Sammanfattning : A new method to perform direct numerical simulations of wall-bounded flows has been developed and implemented. The method uses high-order compact finite differences in wall-normal (for channel flow) or radial direction (for pipe flow) on a collocated grid, which gives high-accuracy results without the effectfof filtering caused by frequent interpolation as required on a staggered grid. 5. 5. High order summation-by-parts methods in time and space

    Författare :Tomas Lundquist; Jan Nordström; Peter Eliasson; David A. Kopriva; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; summation-by-parts; time integration; stiff problems; weak initial conditions; high order methods; simultaneous-approximation-term; finite difference; discontinuous Galerkin; spectral methods; conservation; energy stability; complex geometries; non-conforming grid interfaces; interpolation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis develops the methodology for solving initial boundary value problems with the use of summation-by-parts discretizations. The combination of high orders of accuracy and a systematic approach to construct provably stable boundary and interface procedures makes this methodology especially suitable for scientific computations with high demands on efficiency and robustness.
