1. Microfluidics at High Pressures : Understanding, Sensing, and Control
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores understanding, sensing, and control in high-pressure microfluidics. The high-pressure regime allows fluids to be forced through narrow channels at substantial speed and creates conditions for fluids of high density and low viscosity—features desired in flow-based chemical analyses. 2. Mössbauer spectroscopy under high pressures and temperatures
Sammanfattning : Iron plays a very important role in Earth materials. 57Fe- Mössbauer spectroscopy provides valuable information on the oxidation state and the near surrounding of iron atoms in crystal structures. LÄS MER
3. TiAlN-based Coatings at High Pressures and Temperatures
Sammanfattning : TiAlN and TiAlN-based coatings that are used of relevance as protection of cutting tool inserts used in metal machining have been studied. All coatings were deposited by reactive cathodic arc evaporation using industrial scale deposition systems. The metal content of the coatings was varied by using different combinations of compound cathodes. LÄS MER
4. Microsystems for Harsh Environments
Sammanfattning : When operating microsystems in harsh environments, many conventionally used techniques are limiting. Further, depending on if the demands arise from the environment or the conditions inside the system, different approaches have to be used. LÄS MER
5. Experimental Study of some Potassium and Sodium Bearing Aluminosilicates at High Temperatures and High Pressures
Sammanfattning : This dissertation presents the results of a high-temperature and high-pressure experimental study of some abundant aluminositicates, which are the main repositories for the two geochemically important elements, sodium and potassium, in the Earth's crust. Phase transitions of end member alkali feldspars and jadeite clinopyroxene are studied at high and ultrahigh pressures corresponding to the conditions between the transition zone and the deep Earth's lower mantle.
