  1. 1. On determining lost core viability in high-pressure die casting using Computational Continuum Mechanics

    Författare :Sebastian Kohlstädt; Pär Jönsson; Julio Hernandez; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; high-pressure die casting; lost salt cores; computational continuum mechanics; two-phase compressible flow; OpenFOAM; CFD; fluid-structure interaction; volume-of-fluid method;

    Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis work is to investigate whether Computational ContinuumMechanics (CCM) can serve as a valuable tool for the casting engineerto determine a priori whether a housing concept with inlying geometries thatso far only exists in Computer Aided Design (CAD) will have the desired coolingperformance and will be manufacturable with an acceptable number ofrejects.As of spring 2019, no application in serial production of lost cores, i. 2. 2. Optimization product parts in high pressure die casting process

    Författare :Mohammad Sadeghi; Rebei Bel-fdhila; Dan Loyd; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; industriell ekonomi och organisation; Industrial Economics and Organisations;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes optimization of die temperature in high pressure die-casting (HPDC) of A380 alloy by experimental observation and numerical simulation with the use of statistical tools. The goal of this research is to determine the optimum die temperature to minimize incidence of these defects and thus maximize production of parts without defects. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Investigations on the Formation of Defect Bands in Semi-Solid High Pressure Die Cast Aluminium-Silicon Alloys

    Författare :Madeleine Law; Pär Jönsson; Christopher Hulme-Smith; Taishi Matsushita; Jessica Elfsberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Semi-Solid Metals; SSM; Al-Si Alloys; Defect bands; HPDC; Semisolida metaller; SSM; Al-Si-Alloys; defektband; HPDC; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : High-pressure die casting of semi-solid aluminium-silicon alloys is used in the automotive industry to manufacture components, like housings, brackets, and bars. It is commonly known that during high-pressure die casting, defect bands may be created that follow the contour of the component surface. These bands consist mainly of a eutectic phase. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Today, there is an essential need for lightweight, energy-efficient, environmentally benign engineering systems, and this is the driving force behind the development of a wide range of structural and functional materials for energy generation, energy storage, propulsion, and transportation. These challenges have motivated the use of magnesium alloys for lightweight structural systems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Semi-Solid Casting of Aluminium and Magnesium Alloys: Slurry Production and Rheocasting using the Rapid Slurry Forming Technology

    Författare :Olof Granath; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Slurry; RheoMetal; Process parameter; Aluminium alloys; Semi-solid; Rheocasting; Rapid Slurry Forming; Magnesium alloys; Reheating;

    Sammanfattning : Semi-solid casting was developed in the early 1970’s and involves the use of a partially solidified metal slurry. This method of casting has become a popular alternative for production of automobile components. LÄS MER
